I can quit anytime
Your chief information officer, marketing department, and wild-eyed programmers may
not be the only ones glued to the Internet. Over 50% of business managers say Internet
access abuse is undermining productivity and job performance.
This according to "Caught in the Net," a new book by Dr. Kimberly Young,
professor of psychology at the University of Pittsburgh, published by John Wiley
and Sons. Based on four years of compiled survey data, Young concludes Internet addiction
is a pervasive and growing problem in our homes, schools, and businesses.
Otherwise healthy people are compulsively checking news, sports, and financial sites;
playing on-line interactive games; or finding virtual companionship through online
chats during business hours.
