PC REPORT
WEB Surpasses Radio, TV Adoption
A new US Department of Commerce report issued this week gives netizens ammunition
to convince their computer-phobic bosses, many of whom believe the Web is a passing
fad, that personal computer technology is once again changing the face of commerce
and communications.
The report, entitled ''The Emerging Digital Economy,'' found Internet usage is doubling
every 100 days. Last year, over 100 million people were on-line, up from a mere 3
million in 1994. By contrast, it took radio 38 years, and television 13 years, to
surpass 50 million listeners -- half of what the Internet garnered in a mere 4 years.
Yes, the Internet is changing the way we work, shop, communicate, read, and play.
Any established organization that's not seriously reevaluating it's business model,
and looking for ways to integrate and exploit Internet technology in core business
practices, runs an extremely high risk of being surpassed overnight by younger, smaller,
faster, and smarter competitors.
