Compliments of Rich Levin's PC ALERT service (http://24.3.97.12)
I'm Gumby.Com, dammit!
The bendable Gumby and Pokey are two of the world's best-known children's toys, but
their trademark owner, the Prema Toy Company, turns out to be as flexible as starched
shirt.
Lawyers for Prema threatened 12-year-old Christopher Van Allen with legal action
if the kid didn't turn over the domain name of his Web site, www.pokey.org. Van Allen,
whose nickname is "Pokey," setup his "PokeyWeb" site merely for
fun, and to exercise his budding Web programming skills.
Turns out Gumby's creator, 76-year-old Art Clokey, is as flexible and affable as
his world-famous animated children's characters. Word got to Clokey, who demanded
Prema's lawyers back off, and allow Van Allen to keep the domain name. With tongue
firmly in cheek, Clokey called the lawyers "Blockheads," a reference to
Gumby's arch enemies in the classic TV series.
