iMAC STORMS THE BIG APPLE
Apple Computer's new Internet-ready iMac wowed the Big Apple this week. Fifty of
the sleek computers with the space age translucent turquoise design were greeted
with ooo's and aah's as the iMac made it's NY debut at the Macworld trade show.
Apple co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs unveiled the iMac's impressive software bundle,
which includes best-of-breed tools for word processing, spreadsheets, database management,
drawing and painting, personal finance, faxing, e-mail, and Web browsing.
The iMac also sports a 56k modem, and two Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports. These
let users easily add hard drives, scanners, printers, backup drives, Web cams, speakers,
Zip drives, and dozens of other USB-compatible devices, simply by plugging them in.
Unlike Windows, plug 'n play really works on the iMac.
One CompUSA executive called the iMac "the first product that will make Windows
[users] switch to the Mac." He may be right. The iMac hits store shelves August
15th, with a suggested list price of $1300.
