About Ken Fermoyle
San Diego - A veteran writer and his company today announced a syndication project
that will supply User Group newsletters with free monthly articles. Ken Fermoyle,
who has been writing for computer publications since 1984 and has had some 2,500
articles published in a career of nearly 50 years, stated that the first syndicated
article would be available within a month.
__ "All we will ask of newsletter editors is that
they run a short credit/ID paragraph at the end of each article and send us a copy
of the newsletter when it is printed. If they use articles on a Website, we ask that
they include a link to our Wordsmith Review site," Fermoyle said. When asked
why this syndication project is being started, he explained that there are three
main reasons.
Rebuild A Base:
"I was writing for many computer publications in the '80s and early '90s, when
I began having vision problems and had to cut back on my work. An operation last
year helped a lot; I have been doing mostly 'behind the scenes' writing for the past
year: ghosting articles for trade magazines, doing marketing communications pieces,
etc. It pays well but I miss picking my own subjects and writing about them in my
own style."
__ A Writer Writes: "I've been at it too long to
quite cold turkey, even if I wanted to stop. I like researching subjects to write
about; that way, you never stop learning."
__ It's Payback Time: "I've been involved with
perhaps 10 User Groups over the past 17 years. They've contributed substantially
to my computer education. I've often been indebted to users for their input in my
research and writing. I like to pay my debts."
__ In Numbers, Strength: "It's difficult for individual
newsletter editors to get the attention of industry PR people, obtain press credentials
for major shows, etc. No single UG newsletter has the numbers. My hope is that we
can attain a critical mass via the combined readership of many UG newsletters that
will force the industry to take heed. I hope to serve as the eyes, ears and voice
for newsletter editors and their readers. Example: PR or marketing types might be
reluctant to provide any substantive help to an editor or writer for a UG newsletter
who requests information when researching an article. If the request comes from someone
who is doing an article for 50, 75 or 100 newsletters, they will be much more forthcoming,
to the extent of arranging interviews with company officials, providing important
background info, etc. Believe me, I've worked both sides of the street & know
how the system operates."
