iLife Up-To-Date program
Apple has posted information on this up-to-date program on their web site. It is for Mac users who purchases a qualifying new Mac with a SuperDrive on or after 1/7/03. (Unless it already included iLife. (you can also get a copy of QuickBooks.) The upgrade price is $19.95 full details at:

ADSL2 boosts data rate and reach
Network World is telling about a new DSL called asymmetrical DSL2. IT add features and functionality. Read the full story at:

More changes for AT&T Broadband users
When AT&T Broadband lost the service of @Home, the users had the opportunity to switch to attbi accounts. Now that Comcast has purchased AT&T Broadband, they get to change again. Brian on the MacWoburn mailing list has reminded us that it is important to back up all the files that a user has on the AT&T servers. Especially files associated to a web site. Otherwise they could easily be lost. Thanks Brian. More info at:

TinyBooks
Peter Cohen at MacCentral is talking about a new product from Space-Time Associates. This is an accounting product called TinyBooks 1.0. A shareware game developer is trying to grow. Hope it doesn't go the way of InfoCom in the Apple II days who tried to go from game developing to a developer of a database. In any case, if your bookkeeping needs are small check this out:

MAC
Ok, what does MAC mean? In one case it is an acronym that translates to: Media Access Control. This your hardware address on a TCP/IP network. Find out what those acronym means at:

Photoblogs
These are the photographic equivalents of blogs. For a link to several good ones, go to: www.photoblogs.org . To enter into a contest for blogs go to:

Houston rejects MS Office
Government officials in Houston turned down a $12 million Microsoft software licensing plan and went with an office sweet called SimDesk. And in the process is taking a chance that Microsoft will audit the city and find unlicensed MS Office on machines there. Brave folks. I applaud their effort. Full story at:

Is your web site using Frames?
Then it is probably in violation of a SBC patent. According to an article at The Register, SBC Communications, Inc. is enforcing a patent it owns that seems to cover the use of frames in web pages. So be careful, you could be hearing from the SBC lawyers at any time.
Keynote crashes
Apparently a lot of folks are having trouble with Keynote crashing their machines. Guess it doesn't pay to have a beta tester of one. Turns out, according to Apple it is an ATI driver problem. See the full store at:

Apple's market share
Peter Cohen writing fro Digit magazine of the UK has an article talking about Apple's US and Worldwide market share. While Apple's sales have decreased from a year ago, they did grab an extremely small market share increase. (3.0 vs. 2.9 for the world market.) Full story at:
http://www.digitmag.co.uk/news/display_news.cfm?NewsID=2541
ClarisWorks
Ron Carlson of Insanely Great Mac has found a history of ClarisWorks written by Bob Hearns, one of the original developers. It makes interesting reading. Ron's story is at:
http://www.insanely-great.com/news.php?id=1571
Switching to a pair of Macs
So much for the "high cost" of Macs. Low End Mac has a story about a PC user switching to Mac. He budgets enough for one machine, but finds out that it will actually get him an iBook and a PowerMac tower. Full story at:

Happy Anniversary - Macintosh
The Macintosh was reveled 19 years ago this last weekend. (1/24/84) Hard to believe. I have had a Mac since about September of that year. Looking forward to another 21.
