- Mac Open Source Software
- macintouch.com is having a lively discussion concerning old and "obsolete"
Mac software. One of its readers mentioned a web site that is tracking Open Source
software for the Mac. Saying: " Here's a plug for an excellent little site which
is attempting to catalog all the open-source Mac software that's currently available.
Jason is up to 94 titles so far.

- More $ for Samsung
- Comline News Service is reporting, that Samsung sold a facility to Rothchild
for $450 million and also received a $100 million infusion by Intel. Then it agreed
over the next two years to sell $1.8 billion worth of bonds to Apple Computers to
strengthen its liquid crystal display (LCD) operation. This will be used to streamline
its production line, enabling price reductions. Samsung will also expand its production
of LCDs for Apple's iBook. Sounds like it is a good thing that Apple had $3.1 Billion
in cash at the end of the last quarter.

- Corel Linux
- MacWeek was reporting during last weeked that Corel Corp. is hoping to make Linux
more accessible with a desktop implementation that will simplify the installation
process to Windows levels. The company is expected to reveal additional details of
Corel Linux at next week's LinuxWorld Expo in San Jose, Calif

- Qwest
- The Wall Street Journal on August 10 reported, that Quest Communications International
Inc. was to announce its new long distance pricing, that would combine Internet access
and long-distance services. Qwest said it is prepared to offer unlimited Internet
access and 250 minutes of long-distance calling for $24.95 a month. Isn't competition
GREAT!

- New Zealand - "Not Macintosh"
- It is being reported, that LAND Information New Zealand's database of survey
and land title data, Landonline, will only be accessible through personal computers
running Microsoft Windows. Price Waterhouse is providing the software and says that
it is a Windows only product. Guess VirtualPC will become even more popular.

- Web site popularity
- Apple.com was #68 on the top 100 list, with 2,323,000 unique visitors July. Microsoft
sites were #1 with 30,224 visitors. This according to PC Data. While I understand
why most of the ones in front of it are more popular, why AT&T (#30 - 4,179,000)
and Bluemountain Arts (#26 - 4,621,000)?
