- MacOS Radio
- Finally a competitor to MacShowLive. Starting July 10th MacOS Radio will be broadcasting
weekly with a plan to go to 3x a week. This one will be done in Quicktime. The are
promising to archive the broadcast until the next show if you can't make the Monday
6:55 ET broadcast. I would hope that they would keep it up longer, but I suppose
they will bow to public pressure if that is wanted.
Duane Burghard will be the host and will interview Roger Kaster of Newer Technologies
for that show. More info at www.macosradio.net

- Opera
- EWeek (aka PCWeek) is reporting on PC Expo that is happening this week in NYC.
Opera is just about the only browser that is not free. ($39) The features in the
4.0 version being announced is integrated e-mail; fast rendering speed; low resource
requirements; 128-bit encryption; XML; cascading style sheets; HTML; ECMAScript;
and JavaScript support. It is also touted as being the fastest browser on earth.
(Available for most platforms) For more info:

- Internet Applicances
- eWeek also says that PC Expo should have a name change to Internet Applicance
Expo as PCs are not what is creating the excitement. Or is it NetPhones? See the
article at: www.zdnet.com/eweek/stories/general/0,11011,2591526,00.html
(One interesting comment is that Cisco is moving to iPhones on its campus. iPhone
is the product they sell for use as a NetPhone.)

- AdCritic.com
- Is a great place to go and get copies of the terrific advertising you have seen
on TV. However don't look for Apple ads there any more. Under threat of legal action,
the web site was required to remove Apple's advertisements. Seems like a stupid move
on Apple's part, but I suppose they have to protect their copywrite. But you would
think they could have worked out something. See: www.adcritic.com

- Wireless Internet for all Palms
- Brent Hecht is reporting on the PC Expo in his Insanely Great Mac newsletter.
On Tuesday 6/27 Pam unveiled its Palm Mobile Internet Kit, a new software product
that allows users to access the Internet on their Palms via a mobile phone.
The idea is to provide all Palm users with the capabilities of the wireless Internet-enabled
Palm VII. It is nice that Palm hasn't abandoned their early users. For the complete

- IEEE 1394
- Also Known As iLink and Firewire is already sold as part of over 8 million PCs.
According to a Cahner's Instat report it will soon take off and be used in the following:
TV set-top boxes; Video game consoles; Consumer audio products; DVD players; Digital
TV sets; Internet appliances; PCs; Multimedia storage devices; Web cameras; Scanners
and printers; and last, but not least Cable modems. Sounds to me like there is going
to be less of a demand for USB2. For more see ZDNet's AnchorDesk at: zdnet.com/anchordesk/stories/story/0,10738,2595404,00.html

- Quote of the Week:

Ross
****
- Web site of the Week:
- The San Jose Mercury News web site: www.mercurycenter.com
is one of the best places to get technology news. But what I like is its 100+ comics.
I picked the ones I want to see and then everyday I can go back to the site and because
of the cookie on my machine I don't even have to sign in to read my comics. Some
of them aren't even available in either the Dallas Morning News or the Fort Worth
Star Telegram that dominate my home area. I particularly like PC & Pixel about
a computer nerd and his cat. Enjoy!

- Shareware of the week:
- For the Mac or PC: From the description on Download.com: "QDesign MVP is
a cross-platform, QuickTime-based digital music application that can play your CD
audio, MP3, WAV, AIFF, and QDesign music files. MVP can also record directly from
CD to MP3 and QDesign music formats. Online search and download of digital music
is also possible using MVP's direct interface to the Internet. MVP even plays back
music videos produced in QuickTime and AVI formats. Version 1.2 has full support
for QDesign MPEG-1 and 2; layer 2 encode, decode, and playback; expanded MP3 encoding;
enhanced file conversion capabilities; bug fixes; and more. The unregistered version
of MVP can encode MP3s for only 30 days, but allows unlimited encoding capabilities
in the QDesign file format. The shareware registration fee for QDesign MVP is $19.95."
