- Info Manager - 09/15/Y2K
- Eudora 5, Apple Protest; Excite Assistant; Word/Excel Tips Newsletter, CorelDraw,
Kawasaki: "Nothing Is Sacred"; Dead User Group Society?
****
- Eudora 5.0
- Insanely Great Mac is reporting problems with upgrading to Euroda 5.0. It seems
that Qualcomm has stated that 5.0 is a free upgrade to 4.3 users, but when downloading
the site will not allow the free upgrade and instead asks for a $29.95 payment. So
you might want to wait until bugs are worked out of the ordering systems. Full story:

****
- Apple Protest
- IGM is also one of several sites reporting that the proposed protest at MacWorld
Expo Paris during Steve Jobs' keynote has now been canceled. I guess the news stories
commenting on how bad an idea it is helped changed their mind. More at: <http://www.insanely-great.com/news/00/9/11-appleprotest.html>

- Excite
- For along time now I have used Excite's Apple branded site as my home page on
my home machine and used GoExpress at work for the PC to do my Internet searches.
I enjoy using both products. Now Excite has announced an Assistant for Macs to go
along with the PC version. It lets you access Excite's information without having
a browser running.

- MS Tips
- WordTips and ExcelTips are two weekly e-mail newsletters published by Discovery
Computing Inc. The two newsletters I have received appear to be well written and
give useful advice. You should check them out. The sign up sites are at: (with sample
newsletters)

ExcelTips: http://www.VitalNews.com/ExcelTips/
BTW - they are free.

- Think Secret sees cracks in G4 Cube?
- ThinkSecret.com is reporting that the Macintosh G4 Cube is showing cracks along
the mold (seems) of the computer. Seems Apple needs to address this issue pretty
soon. See the story at: http://www.thinksecret.com/

- Corel has released Corel Draw 8 LE
- ...as a free down load from their web site. They also announced that versoin
10 will be available for OSX. Assuming of course, that they are still in business
in 2001. <http://www.corel.com>

- Kawasaki
- The New York Times has run a news story on Guy Kawasaki. Perhaps one of the best
profiles of him I have seen it is at: http://199.97.97.16/contWriter/cnd7/2000/09/08/cndin/6050-0014-pat_nytimes.html
And is title: "For Early Mac Evangelist Guy Kawasaki, Nothing Is Sacred"

- Apple Cable
- Apparently Apple is listening to all the complaints about the length of the cable
on their new keyboard and mouse. A USB extension cable is available for free by calling
800-977-6173. I do not know if you have to provide a serial number. But at least
you should be able to sit your G4 on the floor and still have the cable reach your
desk top.

- FatBrain
- One of my favorite on-line books stores has been purchased. Barnesandnoble.com
has announced that they are purchasing FatBrain for $64 million in stock and cash.
While I am glad to see the founders of FatBrain making out, I hope the new owners
won't change the site too much. Full Story: http://www.newsbytes.com/pubNews/00/155182.html

- Dead User Group Society?
- Did you know that 32% of the user groups who listed in The User Group Locator
between September 1998 and 1999 are now dead? Email addresses: dead . . . web site
URL addresses: dead. Do you plan to join? Update your UG Registration in the UGN
User Group Locator: http://www.user-groups.net/UGCommunity/UGRegister.html
