Info Manager - 11/10/Y2K
Mac Medical Software; Urban Legends; XBOX
.
Medical Softare
Recently on the Mac EvangeList, a member asked about software to run a medical office saying his consultant was insisting on PC software at a cost of $9800.
One of the respondents searched the apple database and found several including:
* www.medeyedbs.com/ ... * www.kipdeluxe.com/... * www.healthcaresoftware.com/ ...
* www.affinitysoft.com/... * www.healthcc.com/ (this one integrates Digital Images into the system/reports it appears) ... * www.PowerMed.com/ (this one seems to integrate with Palms for data collection)
__ He said he found some excellent solutions to his needs at 1/20th the cost of the above PC product. I remember in the mid-80s when the Boston Computer Society had its own Mac Fair. __ Part of that fair was a room set up for medical software vendors and doctors to talk about their product. Feed back from both the doctors and the vendors was great. The vendors said that normally at medical trade shows they never got feed back from the doctors since they usually only got to see them during breaks in the conferences. At the BCS event, they got feed back that enabled them to make a better product. To bad that type of event isn't available today.
__ He had also asked about networking Macs and PC and was told: "Networking Macs and PeeCee's is a 'cinch' with PCMacLan" (www.miramarsys.com/products/pcm.htm) and that DAVE from Thursby was also a good alternative. (www.thursby.com/) if the PCs were running NT. (Thrusby in talking to me about presenting at the Apple Corp of Dallas meeting in early spring 2001.
__ Another suggestion was: www.timhiggins.com/ for networking help! This site along with www.macwindows.com/ and MacManagers.org website at www.mac-mgrs.org should provide all the needed informtion for networking. Althought www.pcsetup2x.com was also recommended for Macs using a PCI PC card solution.

Urban Legends
I am sure you have received e-mail from someone telling some believable tale and passed it on only to be told that you are a fool for doing so. Here is a good article on MacNow talking about such e-mail. It includes several links where you can go to verify stories. Like the Senate Bill to require postage on e-mail: www.macnow.com/issues/2000/10/Connections2K10.html
.
Xbox
Plans of the Microsoft Xbox are showing up on the net. One of the sites is wbox365.com. You can see the specs at: www.xbox365.com/images/proto-X7.jpg and www.xbox365.com/ktalk/973472759,60960,.shtml

Quote of the Week:
"If we all did the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves." -- Thomas A. Edison.
.
Web site of the week:
There are so many web sites listed above, that I almost feel that a web site of the week is kind of over doing it. But in keeping with last weeks money saving site, here is another coupon site that also considers rebates. www.couponnet.com/
