New Domain Options
According to an article in Network World Fusion, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers has narrowed the list of new domains to 10. They are: .biz, .web, .nom, .per, .i, .name, .coop, .union, .air and .geo. Two others .museum and .health are still possible, but apparently not likely. They did veto .kids and .xxx. These aren't final yet, but at least we know what direction they are heading. The article is at: http://www.idg.net/go.cgi?id=361123
.
OSX on Intel
One of our regular readers (Tom Clow) sent in this web site that proposes a petition to get Apple to produce MacOSX for on Intel machines. It is: http://www.osxonintel.com/ Not really sure that I think this is a good thing. But if you do, then sign the petition.
.
Comdex
MacWorld maybe the largest trade show to hit San Francisco each year. (This year is predicted to have about 85K in attendance). It is small potatoes compared to Comdex. CNN is reporting that 200K will be in attendance this week in Las Vegas. There will be 2100 exhibitors with people from 145 countries. To top it off there are at least 11 other Comdex events held around the world each year. Bet is is fun to attend Comdex as a computer buyer for some major corporation. If you are attending, give us a report on how it goes. Otherwise, lets look forward to January and MacWorld Expo.
.
Postage
Computer World is reporting that the US Postal Rate Commission not only agreed to allow a 1 cent increase in first class mail, but would allow a discount for postage purchased via the Internet. Perhaps as much as a 4 cent discount. But from the way the story is written, it sounds like the vendor would get the discount and it would be up to him how much to pass on. So stay tuned for more information. Read the full story
.
Seagate
The Register is reporting that Seagate has announce 180 Gigabyte hard drive. Now we will really be able to edit video on a computer. (And to think my first hard drive was 20 Megabytes.) Full Story at: http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/2/14707.html
