- iPod updater
- According to Ron Carlson of the Insanely Great Mac staff, Apple has posted an updater to iPod. (So soon too. Actually the day before the iPod was released to stores.)
__ Meanwhile, there is a new utility that allows users to manually update the files on their iPods. (Doesn't require iTunes.) This utility is an OS9 one only. It is being offered as a "a good guy ware". That is do something nice to the person next to you. __ Get the utility at: http://www.cooc.de/softies/ipodfreefileaccess/index.htmlOf course, Apple's updater is at Apple.com For the full story, go to: http://www.insanely-great.com/news/01/1164.html .
- HyperBee catalogs the internet
- A student at Georgia Tech is hoping to follow in the footsteps of other search engine developers such as Yahoo and take a student project and turn it commercial.Using the example of SETI@Home, they are looking at getting volunteers to do the cataloging of the Internet in their computer's downtime. He is planning on turning loose of the HyperBee search engine on January 1st.
__ No word yet if it is a Macintosh compatible program. The story is at Newsbytes and sounds like a cool idea, IF he can get more than the 12 volunteers he currently has signed up. The HyperBee site is at http://www.hyperbee.com For the full story, go to: http://www.newsbytes.com/news/01/172049.html .
- Airport 2.0
- Apple has announced the latest version of Airport. Version 2.0.
__ It now has 128 bit encryption and it will handle up to 50 computers. Another interesting feature is that it comes with a built-in Firewall. Of course, it also works with OS X. For the full story, go to: http://www.apple.com/airport/ .
- VJ Editing for OSX
- Ron Carlson of Insanely Great Mac reported on 11/13 that ArKaos, at Comdex released their real time video authoring software in OSX compatible format. It can edit and manipulate a visual performance while it is running.

- Window software for iPod
- Meanwhile, Ron Carlson also reported that Mediafour has announced that they are developing software to connect PCs using Windows to the iPod. (Named Xpod.) This is the company that developed MacDrive to allow Windows users to access Mac disks. Of course, the PC will have to have Firewire ports to work.
