- Lawsuits seek $2.2 trillion over 'junk' faxes
- Reuters is reporting, that a group of California activists have files a $2.2 TRILLION lawsuit against. Fax.com for sending out unsolicited paper faxes. Sounds like they want to put Fax.com out of business. Now if we could just get this law applied to SPAM.

- 17" iMac: Apple Cannot Keep Up With Demand
- Remy Davison of Insanely Great Mac has an article that agrees with a number of other sources on the web that says that Apple can not keep up with demand for its high end iMac. Hopefully they won't try to slow demand like they did with the 15

- Jaguar breaks record
- OS X 10.2 was the largest opening day of any Mac OS software with over 100,000 copies sold. Not to surprising, since there really hasnāt been that many releases that Apple has made us pay for. But still good news.

- Wi Fi Projectors
- 80211Planet.com is reporting that Toshiba has released projectors that can be connected to a computer wirelessly via "Wi-Fi". Not cheap enough of user groups to use. (Unless they get enormous discouts, they are surely a sign of things to come.

- WordPerfect instead of MS Office?
- HP has announced that their new HP Pavilion consumer PCs will come with Quatro Pro and WordPerfect. In my mind, this is one more sign that MS is loosing its grip on the market place.

- Picture to icons
- Most of you are now familiar with pictures in folders that are created with icons. This has been available since sometime during System 7.x. Here are some places to get software that will do that.
http://www.naratt.com/info.html http://www.leisterpro.com/doc/Ranger/index.html http://studwww.rug.ac.be/~tdgroote/p2i/P2I/ Meanwhile, in OS X this is not necessary. Basically, it is possible to have a picture show up in a folder window. So if you want that on a CD, just create the disk image of the CD and then place the graphic in the folder. (make sure the image is on the CD image itself. Then you can burn the CD and the image will show up. As it was described in the InfiniteLoop mailing list: "I do this all the time. First use Toast (or whatever) to 'burn' your intended CD into a disk image then open that image in the Finder and use the normal Finder settings (Command-J) to specify the background image for your window - remember to also set the default size and screen position for your window too." Now, if you want to be really clever, use File Buddy or similar to make the original file for your background image invisible - so you get the background image displayed but it isn't obvious where it's coming from... OSX, unlike OS9, will continue to display a background image even when the file's invisible." http://www.leisterpro.com/doc/Ranger/index.html .
- A faster help?
- Apparently a number of people are complaining that the Help files in OS X 10.2 take too long to open. They appear to be accessing a web site instead of taking them off the hard drive. ResExcellence.com apparently has a solution sent in by a reader:
"Thanks to Timothy Collins who was kind of enough to pass along some information he discovered concerning Mac Help being so slow. Tim had a similar experience and discovered that by trashing the archived Mac Help files in your users/home/library/preferences/Apple Help Prefs folder it seemed to clear up the delay. Perhaps there was some confusion on the Mac OS X system as to what to use(?) What ever the reason, it does indeed work much faster now. I checked the Mac Help on the iBook also and discovered even on the G3 the speed was good since deleting the 10.1.5 archive." ResExcellence is an excellent way to find out about trouble shooting. - Web site of the Week:
- For humor about the Mac, Apple and the computer industry in general, As The Apple Turns has been the place to look for several years now. But a new site seems to be intent on out doing them. Check out CrazyAppleRumors and see if you can keep from chuckling.

- VOM: Corel
- Corel has long supported user groups with review copies, presentations and at regional/national events. I remember doing a "demo in a box" of WordPerfect when they were still developing it for the Mac. In order to take participate in their program, a group must be registered with Corel. To do that, you must send an e-mail to ugpro@corel.com.
For more complete description of the Corel user group program, see the web site at: http://www.corel.com/products/user/index.htm< For a complete listing of Corel's products go to http://www.corel.com/product/index/htm .
