PRINT ON ENVELOPES
by Dennis Pasey

Printing directly onto an envelope can be a bit tricky. One you found the hang of it though, you may find this a useful skill - whether you simply want to save money on labels or just want to learn another skill for home or business. Let me know if this works on a dot matrix or ink jet printer

Microsoft Word

Under the Tools menu, select Create Envelope. Type in an address and a return address. You can also select an address in an existing document before selecting Create Envelope, and your text will appear automatically in the Envelope window.

Click on Print. You will get a special version of the Page Setup dialog box. Select the appropriate envelope size from the pop up list. Then select either Left, Center or Right, depending on how your printer accepts envelopes. Click OK, and then Print. Dialog box will come up. Make sure the page is set to print in landscape mode. Select Manual Feed, then Print. [If you are using Laser Writer 8.0, just select print.]

WordPerfect

Type an address into a new document and select it, or select an address in an existing document.

Under Macro, select Envelope. You will be prompted to select either center or edge feed for your printer. Your text will then appear in a new envelope-formatted document, and a dialog box informs you that the envelope is ready to be printed. Click OK.

Select Manual Feed and click on Print. You will be prompted to place an envelope in the printers manual feed.

MacEnvelope

MacEnvelope is great if your word processing software doesn’t have an envelope feature. You can create templates for envelopes with a main address, return address, graphic, bar code, FIM, and even special messages. The program also has preset templates for labels as well as a special feature that allows you to reuse sheets of labels.
