HARD DRIVE CONCERN

HP has discontinued all its hard drives. According to my sources at HP, their hard drives were giving too much trouble. When there is a prolonged read or write session, they can seize up and even destroy their own platters. Mine self-destructed doing a reformat.
__ HP will continue to support their branded drives for the warranty period, however my drive came with only the label and SCSI identification chip of the vendor, Maxtor.
My sources at HP tell me that Maxtor bought up what remained of HP's discontinued hard drives at a blow out price, with the proviso that the drives were not to be identified as HP, and that HP was not responsible for the 5 year warranty.
__ When Maxtor discontinued selling SCSI drives last year, I was assured they would continue to support them for the warranty period, but when I called about mine, I was initially given a pat line by Maxtor Customer Support that they no longer had any facilities to repair SCSI drives and to contact the manufacturer, which I was told was either Fujitsu or Seagate. After five days of investigation I finally found out that my hard drive was an HP.
__ The people at HP immediately contacted Maxtor, and now Maxtor will be sending these drives to HP for repair.
Note: HP has always gotten top marks for customer service.
