Beating the Download Blues
by Busy Hands Cindy O'Hora
I have become increasingly more annoyed waiting for downloads to
finish.
Fortunately, I have discovered a wealth of productive things to do while I not so
patiently wait for my files and mail. Here's just a few for you to consider:
Clean out your wallet.
Read an article in MNJ.
Declutter in de room de computer is in. :-)
Write a brief love letter to your significant other.
Move all the stationary supplies into the computer desk.
Check for birthdays this month and address those cards!
Tell your child/spouse/friend how proud you are of them.
Write a thank you note to someone who did you a good turn.
Sew on the missing button, repair a ripped hem, or darn a sock.
Sift through your software and pick one title to review for MNJ.
Organize your disks. This can apply either to floppy or compact.
Mail a check to that shareware author, whose fabulous utility you have been using
for the past two years.
Wash the coffee/juice/soda stains off the computer desk. Don't bother denying you
drink at the computer.
Page through one of those manuals that came with your software. You'll be surprised
what you discover.
Start a shopping list. 1. Buy photo albums.
Put the last few month's photos in an album. At one point I had 4 years of photos
pitched in a box in the hall closet. Thanks to a recent update, I got them all in
the albums. I'm once again accumulating a new pile, though, due to a lack of albums.
Put all the loose paper clips running around the drawer into an empty film container.
Tape a paper clip to the outside as a label.
Start a Jello salad. If you are embarking on a few big downloads, consider adding
fruit or making rainbow layers.
Clean up the mess you left in the kitchen.
Take out the trash
Load/unload the dishwasher.
Straighten a drawer
Start a load of wash
Move a load of wash to the dryer or the clothes line.
Fold the stuff in the dryer or bring it in from the line.
Put your clean clothes away.
Paint your toe nails
The tricky part of this whole plan is to remember a project when the download has
you shifting around in your chair. Make yourself a little stickie list. Add to it
ad-lib. Cross off what you accomplish. If you are anything like me, you have already
thought of a bunch I've missed, skipped, or been too embarassed to add.
__ In closing, I would like to clear up a mistaken impression
you may have. I am NOT a neatnick. Quite the opposite is true, hence this sizable
list.
Beat those download blues. Go do something!
I shall pass through this world but once.
If therefore, there be any kindness I can show,
or any good thing I can do, let me do it now...
For I shall not pass this way again.
