about offensive e-mail
A Request

by Dan W. Junkml

Friends, are you as tired of the rising floodtide of e-ads, letterbombs, and other offensive e-mail as I am? I hope so, because I have some suggestions for you.

1. Write to your online service(s)
requesting (suggesting? demanding?) an accessory to the online service software that would allow blocking of all mail to specific screen names except for the list of addresses you have entered into the program. *Keep making these requests on a regular basis.*

2. Make the same request for another accessory
(or tied into the first one) that would allow the highlighting and deletion of the SUBJECT titles of letterbombs, exactly as you highlight and delete a paragraph from your word processor.

3. Contact all your friends with this idea, and have them pass it on.

4. Post this suggestion in the appropriate bulletin boards
in your online service(s) where *programmers* could see it, and suggest that civic-minded programmers create these accessories and upload them as freeware or modestly-priced shareware.

5. Go into your online software libraries,
and contact the authors of uploaded software programs with the above suggestion.

Let's get a grassroots movement going, folks! The e-junkmail tide is only *beginning* to come in!
