It didn't take long to find out when the
User Group Academy took a trip to visit the Maryland Apple Corps User Group and the
Dulaney High School in Baltimore Co, Maryland.

I was so pleased to receive the invitation to visit with the Maryland Apple Corps, and member Marie Ponzillo, Computer Liaison for Dulaney High School.
__ Marie (at right, center) authored and submitted her grant proposal to the 1999 User Group Academy Grants program, naming Dulaney High School as their local public school Partner. As winners of a $5,000 Grant, they purchased three Apple iBook laptop computers and accessories for their program: "Teachers and Technology To Go."

__ Our hosts for this wonderful day-long visit were Larry and Mical Carton, active MD Apple Corp members, and Baltimore area computer specialists, along with Marie Ponzillo, also an Apple Corp member.
__ After a delightful deli lunch with Mical, we were met by Marie at Dulaney High School for our visit. We were delighted to discover a school of very happy teachers and students, now able to utilize these laptops as teaching tools and for teacher training.
__ The visit was held in the Dulaney HS Library and we had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with other faculty (and MD Apple Corp members) Melba Williams, Elizabeth Fanto, Juan Domenech, Pamela Kawahara-Fischer, Edith Lynch, and Dora Simons.
__ All were willing and eager to report resounding approval of the successes made possible by the Grant and their new iBooks. According to Baltimore school system policy, funds cannot be spent on "portable" equipment. While the school has an awesome computer program (which we'll show you later), they have been unable to acquire laptops. It was Marie's dream that the teachers and students could benefit by making the computing and learning activities transportable. A dream that is now coming true for Dulaney High School.

Next, let's see what they do. . .
