Welcome to the User Group Network News Service. News, reviews, contacts, and networking with user groups all over the world.

As a Certified Affiliate...

You get the advantages of your own, unique, Web Portal . It's optional, and and can last as long as your groups wishes to continue. It's free to Certified groups, no strings attached. (Be sure to see our ADMIN Accounts).

The Problem:

  1. Lost on the Web: The internet has become so large, that small Web site installations hardly get noticed. The key to spreading your identity and availability on the Web lies in redundancy.
  2. Hidden deep in the directory: Many groups are hosted and/or sponsored on personal pages, deeply hidden in URL addresses, or on Juno, AOL, Compuserve or other online services that may not be the identity you wish to purvey to your members. Some are even listed on major spam sites like Tripod, and Geocities
  3. Confused Identity: Your group might have an address like: http://www.ibjm.net/~unicom/janeway/groups_inde/~acro/P_Pearson.html . . . Pretty difficult to give that to a prospective member, the radio station or the newspaper!
  4. Search engine rankings: Your group may have its own domain, and web site. However without sufficient link-backs your search engine (SE) rankings will be very low, putting you way at the end of the results lists.

The Solution:

Once you've fulfilled the Affiliate requirements you can open a second portal to your group's website:

  1. You get Uniformity: no matter where your site is hosted, this page stays -- use is as the domain on your merchandising materials... it links to your web site no matter where it is!
  2. You get Cross-Linked: seed your Portal in search engines! Increase rankings by giving a second port of entry. We've written the meta tags so the robots will find your site and spider it again into the SE.
  3. Enhanced Identity: you select a URL that tells the reader who you are! You get the CERTIFIED seal of approval, and the CERTIFIED certificate to endorse your organization.

Even if you already have your own domain, (like www.SMUG.org)this redundancy helps increase your search engine rankings by providing valuable Back-Links into your site! It also bolsters your chances of being found just by virtue of the domain name.

Take Action

First: follow the three steps to Affiliation:
___ 1) Register, 2) Link-Back, 3) Become Certified

If you would like a special domain, or you have ideas that would be popular, then let us know. We're here for your benefit!

Here's how it works:

  • You register, hook up the link back, then notify us. Volunteers will check and validate your information... they may even contact you or members of your group.
  • Upon approval, we generate your cameo page, and then arm it with special META tags which conform to the search engine regulations.
  • We'll include links to YOUR website entry page, and/or your newsletter page.
  • We'll include a response form so people can inquire directly from your UGN cameo page if they like... we'll mask your email address so the spam trollers can't capture it to send you spam. You'll know exactly who inquired, and you'll be able to track these because of the uniformity of data! (Import it into your favorite database!)
  • Once it's up, we also link to it from our "Certified User Groups" and "UGCommunity" pages
  • You tell your members, friends, etc., then seed the search engines! What you've done is launched a second portal entry page to your site, with a unique IP address. The search engine sees this, and raises your rankings.

It's that easy!

Now, return to the CERTIFICATION Page.

Remember: once you're linked, send email to: showker@user-groups.net and we'll be around to visit you, and send you your official CERTIFICATION papers.
