- The Mac Was with Him
If he were a Jedi Knight faced with an implacable foe, he would have reached for his light saber. Instead, John D. Lowry, faced with the task of re-mastering a film classic revered by millions but badly damaged by dirt, scratches, and static electricity, reached for his Power Mac G5.
In fact, for a battle of this size--digitally restoring and re-mastering the "Star Wars Trilogy"--Lowry put 600 dual processor Power Mac G5 computers on the front lines. Even so, it took him over three months before he was able to deliver the three optically matched, razor sharp, and pristinely clean digital masters.
Says a LucasFilm executive of Lowry's work, "We're extremely happy with everything Lowry Digital did on the Star Wars trilogy. John's bank of G5s, his process, his proprietary software created great results." Apple eNews issued: 10/21/2004
- Tips for Ten: Keeping Tabs with Safari
Whether you're reading a multi-page article in Chaucer Review, collecting the best sites you've found after Googling for cheese cake recipes, or comparing specs on those new SUVs you've been contemplating, the tabs in Safari offer an excellent tool. Tabs let you see and easily switch between multiple websites or web pages without wrestling with the clutter of multiple windows.
Best of all: Safari provides a very easy way for you to open an intriguing link in a new Tab. Simply
1. Hold down the Control key
2. Click on a link
3. Select "Open Link in New Tab" from the drop-down menu
Once you have several Tabs loaded in Safari, a click takes you from one webpage to the next.
Want to use Tabs? Select Preferences from the Safari menu. Then click the Tabs button at the top of the dialog and check the box next to "Enable Tabbed Browsing." Apple eNews issued: 10/21/2004
- Creating On-the-Go Playlists
You could be cross-country skiing, hiking the Pacific Coast Trail, or out hunting the perfect Halloween pumpkin when, suddenly, the ultimate collection of songs for the occasion comes to mind.
Can you create a playlist whenever and wherever inspiration strikes? Of course. You have a new iPod. To create an On-the-Go Playlist, simply:
1. Scroll and highlight the title of a song, album or existing playlist
2. Hold down the Select button until the title flashes
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 until you've made all of your selections
You can start enjoying that new playlist immediately: iPod makes it the last item under the Playlists menu. And when you get back to your Mac or PC, you can add it to your other iTunes playlists via autosync. Apple eNews issued: 10/21/2004

Connect a camcorder and edit a movie.
And if you ever need some assistance--installing an AirPort Extreme Card, connecting to an external display or television, setting up a second (or third) email account, or taking advantage of the iMac G5's digital audio port--we have help available 24 hours a day, including hundreds of articles, links to support sites for bundled software, an automated assistant, even chat-based support from an iMac G5 technician.
