How hot is the MacBook? Hot enough to fry an egg!

macbookInsane! An enterprising fellow figured out that it would be possible to actually fry an egg on the bottom of his black MacBook.... ALSO covered at:

InformationWeek - I can report from personal experience that the MacBook Pro can't really be used as a laptop without an insulating layer, like a thick magazine between lap tuaw.com - Santa Monica, CA, USA

Apple's Next Pro Mac

Next month is Apple's World Wide Developer Conference. The primary focus of the annual soiree is expected to be on the next iteration of OS X aka Leopard. Assuming Apple leans to the MacBook type redesign instead of the MacBook Pro non-redesign protocol there is room for some aesthetic improvement. Apple Matters - Boston,MA, USA

Multiple monitors on a MacBook Pro?

Although you can connect Apple's 30" display to your MacBook you need another video card to drive an additional monitor. You could do this with an older PowerBook via its PC Card slot and a device such as VillageTronic's VTBook and Digital Tigers' SideCar Mac. Apple has chosen to look toward the future with its MacBook Pro and has replaced the now-old-tech PC Card slot with the faster, new-tech ExpressCard/34 slot. Macworld - San Francisco, CA, USA

Office alternatives abound for new MacBook

I recently purchased a new MacBook, which no longer comes with AppleWorks for word processing, spreadsheets and such. What program do you recommend: iWork, AppleWorks 6.2.9, Microsoft Office 2004 or something else? It is my understanding that none of these run natively on Macs with Intel processors but instead rely on Rosetta. (Print Page) David L. Hart San Diego Union Tribune

MCE offers 160GB hard disk for MacBooks, Pros, minis

MCE Technologies has added a 160GB Serial ATA (SATA) 2.5-inch hard disk drive to its arsenal of upgrades for Macs. The drive fits inside Apple's MacBook Pro, MacBook and Intel-based Mac mini systems, acting as a replacement for the factory-installed drive. It costs $299 and ships now.

Transcend Unveils 2GB SO-DIMM Module

Transcend has just released the first 2.0 GB SO-DIMM module for notebooks. This is the largest capacity SO-DIMM available and will fit all major brand notebooks. It's worth noting however that most notebooks do not have support for 4GB of memory so that dream of a 4 gig Macbook Pro will have to stay on hold for a while longer. Neoseeker - USA
