Adobe enters the world of Stock Photography

Anna Capili

There's a new service in town for digital imaging. Adobe recently announced its Adobe Stock Photos, which will provide one-stop shopping service for stock photography According to Adobe executives, Adobe Stock Photos will be available with Creative Suite 2 Premium and Standard Editions, and also for Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and GoLive applications. What the new service does is provide users with "a single destination point to access hundreds of thousands of images without having to exit the Adobe application."

Adobe has collaborated with some of the world's leading stock photography providers to ensure that the new service would be able to give great results. Some of these providers were Photodisc by Getty Images, Digital Vision, imageshop royalty-free by zefaimages, and amana. Adobe also promises to feature Comstock Images by Jupitermedia. As a result, users are offered the ability to purchase royalty free images via the Adobe Stock Photos.

In addition, access to partner rights managed libraries, as well as individual assignment photographers, is made possible via the Adobe Photographers Directory -- another perk of the new service. In general, the Adobe Stock Photos offers to help users in four ways:
(1) find images faster;
(2) manage images with ease;
(3) create images without hassle; and
(4) buy images instantly.

It has a built in "extensive search capabilities", providing an economical way for users to view search results across different libraries without having to log into each provider's website. To make it easier, Adobe Stock Photos provides an advanced dialog box that lets users search results according to media type, orientation, and provider.

The new service can be accessed via Adobe Bridge which is made available in Adobe Creative Suite 2 and Adobe CS2 software applications. Adobe Bridge is a new hub for productivity, imagery and creativity that allows users to have multi-view file browsing and smooth cross-product integration within the CS2 applications.

Adobe is very proud of this addition to the services that they are providing their clients. "Adobe Stock Photos is an innovative offering for creative professionals and we're pleased to be one of the stock photo agencies to launch with this service," relates the Chairman and CEO of Jupitermedia Corporation.

The Adobe Stock Photos will be made available in 27 countries, and in 15 languages. Moreover, keyword search engines and setting search preference are supported in 8 languages, which includes Dutch, English (both the US and UK), French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish. Prices would also be competitive with those found in individual offers of the photography providers.
