Games: Modern Twist to Retro Shoot'em Up

Kaijin

The Year is 2546 on Planet Terria. For too long, genetically modified grown food and pollution from the ocean and environment created a harmful impact on the natural food chain of Planet Terria. Over time, the insects and ocean dwellers mutated in wildly unusual ways and became stronger and more intelligent. Some began to develop brain abnormalities, which resulted in an increased aptitude of 5000% in their IQ's.
As their new intellect grew, so did their appetite for planet domination. They now feel that Terrians are their Public Enemy Number One. So, they developed a secret army and are now ready to eradicate the Terrians with all of their mutant force.
You and your ship, the "Kaijin" are the last hope for the Terrian Kind...

Phelios Software's Kaijin

Phelios Software has released their new Shoot'em Up game called, Kaijin -- adding yet another addition to their growing list of games made with the PTK game engine.

Phelios wanted to create a new Shoot 'em Up (also known as a Shmup) taking retro inspired qualities of a side scrolling game and adding their own modern twists. Their desire was for Kaijin to have the "feel" of a classic shmup, but improve on its performance and attributes by infusing content never before seen in a game of its kind.
For example, the weapon system embraces the concept of having the power-ups tied to the health bar, so in effect, the player really has one life but can extend it or reduce it depending on his weapon power.
Additionally, there's a "squid-like" bug that lays eggs on the board, and if the player does not get rid of these eggs promptly, they'll hatch into fluttering flies or other mutant bugs. Another feature is a Mega laser, which is a homing laser using Bezier Splines so it looks like a "flexible pipe." This latter attribute exploits a brand new feature just released in the game engine, PTK.
