FileMaker Pro 7 gets Automized
Troi File Plug-in 3
Troi Automatisering today announced the availability of the first public beta version of Troi File Plug-in 3.0, for FileMaker Pro 7. Troi File Plug-in 3.0b1 makes use of the new extended plug-in API of FileMaker 7. Calls to the plug-in's functions can now support Unicode and more and bigger parameters.
At the same time Troi is releasing Troi File Plug-in 2.8. This version makes use of the 'classic' plug-in API. Users that upgrade to FileMaker 7 but don't yet want to rewrite their scripts calling the File Plug-in functions can use this version. The 2.8 version also runs on FileMaker 6 and 5.x.
What is Troi File Plug-in?
Troi File Plug-in is a very powerful tool for getting access to information outside the FileMaker Pro database. Any files or folders stored on the computer can be accessed through the functions of the plug-in. All from within FileMaker you can:
- - get data from files that are on the disk of the computer into FileMaker Pro
- - create files anywhere on the hard disk and put data from FileMaker fields into them
- - manipulate files and folders on the disk: this includes creating, deleting, copying, moving and modifying files and folders
- - query detailed information of files: the size on disk, creation and modification dates and much more
- - launch files with their appropriate application directly from FileMaker Pro
New Features
Troi File Plug-in 3.0b1 has these improvements:
- - Converted to the new External Function API of FileMaker Pro 7.
- - The plug-in functions now have a size limit of 1 Gb per parameter (up from the total of 64000 character limit for all parameters in FileMaker 6!)
- - Each function now supports Unicode characters.
Troi File Plug-in 2.8 has these improvements:
- - Added possibility to launch folders on Mac OS X.
- - Changed the function TrFile-FindFolder with the "-Root" switch to return the top folder on the startup disk (for example "Mac HD:") and no longer the System folder on the startup disk (for example "Mac HD:System:") on Mac OS X.
- - Changed the error codes returned by several functions to more descriptive codes.
- - Improved the ListFolder function on Windows to no longer need a backslash at the end.
- - Improved example Import1Image.fp5.
- - Added the forgotten Overview.fp5 file to the Windows download.
- - And a few bug fixes.
Suggested Uses
- - Batch import of any text file, anywhere
- - Let the user select a folder and process the contents of this folder
- - Create a web site by exporting multiple HTML files
- - Update solutions, by moving database files into place
- - Read and write custom formatted files, for example from legacy systems
- - Catalog complete projects, including pictures, and the meta data like EXIF and IPTC
Pricing & Availability
A Windows version of the plug-in is expected to be available before 19 July 2004.
Fully functional versions of Troi File Plug-in 3.0b1 and Troi File Plug-in 2.8 are available for downloading at Troi's web site at: www.troi.com
Troi File Plug-in 3.0b1 works with FileMaker Pro 7. The plug-in should also run without problems with runtimes from FileMaker Developer 7. The plug-in is currently only available for Mac OS X (10.2.8 or later). We expect to release a Windows beta version of Troi File Plug-in 3.0 before 19 July 2004.
Troi File Plug-in 2.8 works with FileMaker 5 and later. The plug-in is available for Mac OS 9.1 or later, including Mac OS X (10.1.5 or later), and for Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4), or Windows XP. The plug-in should also run without problems on any machine that is able to run FileMaker Pro 4.0, FileMaker Pro 4.1 and runtimes from FileMaker Developer Edition 4.0 and later.
Licenses cost US$ 59 per user. The registration you receive after paying the license fee will work with version 3.0b1 as well as with version 2.8!
