If you're one of those people who love to pick up a book and read all those cool little side-bar tips (you know, those great little tips that appear in boxes on the side of the page in all great computer books) then you're going to lose your mind over this new book from Mac Design magazine's Editor-in-Chief Scott Kelby. It follows the same brilliant premise as his bestselling "Photoshop Killer Tips" book, in that the entire book, cover-to-cover is nothing but side-bar tips (without all the sidebars).
Scott got the idea for this type of book after he realized how many people buy a book, and the first thing they do is read all the sidebar tips (he reads them all usually before he even reads the first chapter). Why? Because that's where all the really slick, really fun stuff is. It's true! If it says the word "Tip" we're all immediately drawn to it, because we know we're about to learn something great. Maybe it's an undocumented keyboard shortcut, a hidden inside secret, or just a faster, better to do something. The only problem is, there's never enough of 'em.
So Scott thought, "Wouldn't it be great if there was a book where the whole book, cover-to-cover was nothing but those little side-bar tips? No long paragraphs explaining the Hierarchical File System. No detailed descriptions of how to configure a LAN, or different ways to partition your hard driveÑjust tipsÑshort and sweet, to the point, and most importantly they've got to be "Killer Tips." And to be a "Killer Tip" it has to be the kind of tip that makes you nod and smile while you're reading it, and as soon as you're done you have to call all your Mac buddies to tune them up with your cool new tips. " Well, that's exactly what this isÑa book of nothing but Mac OS X Killer tips (without the sidebars, without all the techno-UNIX stuff, but with plenty of helpful graphics throughout).
