Photo Finish: The Digital Photographer's Guide to Printing

by Jon Canfield, Tim Grey

The full title of this book is: Photo Finish: The Digital Photographer's Guide to Printing, Showing, and Selling Images (which wouldn't fit in our headline above!)

This is one of the more interesting books on digital photography to come along. Not particularly for its depth of information, but more for the coverage which other books seldome give more than a few pages. For every photographer or digital photographer who knows of this information, there will be 100 new camera owners who don't. The questions answered in this book are the most frequent questions asked in the Photoshop 911 site and many other Q&A oriented web sites -- it's all about getting great prints, great slideshows and presentations.

Tim Grey also publishes the daily on-line newsletter, DDQ (Digital Darkroom Questions) is a friendly and approachable writer. Another of Grey's books Color Confidence addresses matching tones, tints and hues of his camera, monitor and printer; and has been a best seller here in the Design Bookshelf.

Grey walks you through all manner of output and the digital photography process; including printed images; on-line displays; and slideshows. There'ss a companion website with detailed examples and downloadable templates.

This is probably the best book on preparing your digital photos for output and if you need the very best possible printing, here's where you want to start.
