Novell has filed a law suit against Microsoft over WordPerfect. It seems that they feel that Microsoft took was unfairly eliminating competition for office products during the time that Novell was owned and marketed WordPerfect Office. Sony on Tuesday announced plans to release a new dual-format DVD burner that's compatible with Macintosh computers as well as PCs. The external double-layer DVD drive is designed to record up to four hours of MPEG-2 video or up to 8.5GB of music and images. It will ship in December and will cost about $230. Yes, Mac users get left out again. But this time, it really makes more sense for them to provide Windows users with anti- virus, spyware and pop-up features. After all, they have a lot more of the first two than the Mac. They actually decided that it would be cheaper to provide this software than to pay technicians to trouble shoot AOL performance problems that turned out to be mostly related to these issues. It is possible to get rid of a lot of files in Windows 98, Win2K and XP to reduce its size without noticeable effect. (Well, you might notice a reduction in successful viri.)
