Better late than never?

Novell has filed a law suit against Microsoft over WordPerfect. It seems that they feel that Microsoft took was unfairly eliminating competition for office products during the time that Novell was owned and marketed WordPerfect Office. It seems like 8 years after the fact is going to make more difficult to prove your case. I would think that Lotus would have a better one. Full story at ... computerworld.com

Sony to offer double-layer DVD burner for Mac

Sony on Tuesday announced plans to release a new dual-format DVD burner that's compatible with Macintosh computers as well as PCs. The external double-layer DVD drive is designed to record up to four hours of MPEG-2 video or up to 8.5GB of music and images. It will ship in December and will cost about $230. AOL's New Security for Window users

Yes, Mac users get left out again. But this time, it really makes more sense for them to provide Windows users with anti- virus, spyware and pop-up features. After all, they have a lot more of the first two than the Mac. They actually decided that it would be cheaper to provide this software than to pay technicians to trouble shoot AOL performance problems that turned out to be mostly related to these issues. Google Scholar

Yes, Google is expanding its offerings again. This time it is aimed at the scientific and research community. The new Google Scholar search engine will still use the same rules as the regular search engine, but will search peer-reviewed papers, theses, books preprints, abstracts and more. Windows in less space

It is possible to get rid of a lot of files in Windows 98, Win2K and XP to reduce its size without noticeable effect. (Well, you might notice a reduction in successful viri.) A company named LitePC produces a tool to do the trick. Then Win98 will be about 1/10th the normal space and the others about 1/2.
