The lawsuit, which was filed by eight disgruntled iPod owners in the fall of 2003, charged the company had exaggerated claims that the rechargeable battery would last the lifetime of the player and would allow for continuous use up to 10 hours. However, the plaintiffs claimed it would last only approximately four hours and complained the batteries needed to be replaced after less than a year-and-a-half of use.
Eligible members of the lawsuit include those who bought a first-, second- or third-generation iPod on or before May 31, 2004, according to the agreement.
Because the settlement provides for different options and benefits depending on the type of iPod affected, it could be hard to gauge how many iPod owners will submit a claim. ... see the full story...
According to an article Friday on CNet, Apple is planning on switching their lower-end computers to Intel in mid 2006 and doing the high-end machines a year later.
IMHO - This would be a real big deal.
It would also be a major challenge for software developers to make the change, although it shouldn't be as big as the change from 68K machines to the PowerPC in 1994. After all, most of the current applications already have Intel versions. In my mind, the bigger problem would be that they would be taking Microsoft head on in the operating system space. That could be a tough sale to many people and corporations. Of course, CNET may have it all wrong. Sometime today we should know. Read more...
Office 12, due to come out in late 2006, will have a new file format. It is to be an open format based on XML. The Mac Business unit at Microsoft has said that they too will support that format. Translators maybe needed however.
IMHO - This will be one of the slowest acceptance periods of any Office product. By the time it is released, it will have been over 3 years since the Windows version was updated. That means that Office 2003 will be even more entrenched than previous versions.

Another suggestion about Apple's talks with Intel:
According to columnist John Yunker, the latest talks between Apple and Intel are about putting WiMax in future products not about moving Mac OS X to Intel.
IMHO - This would make a lot of sense as we all assume that Apple is looking at invading the living room with some kind of audio/video device. Read his full column at: www.corante.com

Ok, so you rip a bunch of your CDs to iTunes. But how do you get the cover art that goes with the song? Why with "Fetch Art" of course. It gets the artwork from Amazon. It will even get the art work for every song on the LP/CD if the songs are selected when you start Fetch Art. But it won't paste it to iTunes automatically. For that you have to select each song in Fetch Art and click on the paste it button. Fetch Art for iTunes

Last week's column "Back It up" brought a number of inquiries from readers. Several in particular related to iTunes and purchased iTunes Music. One reader had to send his iMac away and pay $90 per hour to retrieve all his video and music data from a fried hard drive. Do you want to start back at tune #1 and rebuild from scratch?
