The Big Moo - Start Being Remarkable

Guy Kawasaki, has written to tell us about this new book. It is written by thirty three authors, including Tom Peters, Malcom Gladwell, Mark Cuban, Robyn Waters, Dave Balter, Red Maxwell, Randall Rothenberg and of course Guy.
He says that "The Big Moo is a simple book that tells stories that stick to your ribs and lights your fire. It will help you to create a culture that consistently delivers remarkable innovations."
Additionally this is a work for charity with the authors turning over royalties to three organizations: acumenfund.org, jdrf.org (juvenile diabetes), roomtoread.org ... ... see the full story...

Print Music

Have you written a new song? Like to distribute your music to other musicians? The makers of Finale!, long the premier music package for the Mac but also available on PCs has announced a new versoin of Print Music. It is specific for producing scores. There is a free 30 day demo at the web site, that will function fully for that 30 days. Additionally, they have a program for free, (registration required) that will led you open and pring other people's scores. It appears however, that you will need to find a music font to get it to work. I haven't had time to look for it on their web site or elsewhere, but I bet it is available.
Get the demo and more information at: finalemusic.com

Is your printer spying on you?

Bob Rankin of the Internet Tour Bus newsletter has an article with the above title. Apparently, the Federal government has convinced some of the laser printer companies to embed a code that show the serial number of the printer. That way a specific print job can be tracked back to the printer's owner. He also has a link to a follow up article that specifies Lexmark printers. Read the full story at: Bob Rankin's Tour Bus

Lawsuit filed against Apple over iPod nano scratches

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Apple Computer over the iPod nano's suceptibility to scratches. The Red Herring reports that Jason Tomczak has filed a class-action lawsuit against Apple Computer on behalf of all iPod nano owners, demanding that customers get their money back as well as a share of the company's profits on the music player's sales." The complaint was filed in the U.S. District Court in the Northern District of California in San Jose on Wednesday, October 19, 2005, according to the report. (See: Scratches Mar New iPod's Beauty by Walter Mossberg; and Macworld's "Apple Confirms" ) Matthew Peterson had set up the "Flawed Music Player" web site when the complaints started to fly, but the site has now been taken down. ... see the full story...

Vista had better be a home run

Another Windows vs Mac article -- what is interesting about this article is that it comes from a vendor of white boxes. He admits it was written on a Mac. He says that Vista will require most Windows users to upgrade their computers to run the new Windows OS. However, he was able to buy a 3 year old Mac for $200 that was capable of running Tiger. myTV.PVR

Eskape Labs has announced the release of myTV.PVR, which is a combination TV tuner and MPEG video encoder that works with the Mac. It is cable ready and works via the USB 2.0 port. The box includes a remote control, cable, radio antenna as well as the expected software and docs. It requires a 500 MHz G4, Quartz Extreme-capable video and Mac OS X 10.3.8 or later with at least 3 GB of hard drive space available. Eskape Labs

IMHO: "Don't Buy A Quad G5"

Well, it has started to happen. Self appointed gurus are saying that you should wait for the new Intel machines to get a new computer. While that advice may be good for a few people, it really doesn't make much sense for most. The Quad G5 is a professional machine. The professional level Intel machines probably won't be out in any numbers before 2007. (Apple has said they will switch the consumer level machines first.) The speed increase can undoubted show a positive ROI for most professionals in that time frame. (See: G5 Quad) Read the contrary article that sez: Don't Buy A Quad G5

Apple's Aperture

Last week, along with its hardware announcements, Apple announced the release of Aperture ($499), which they call "The first all-in-one post production tool that provides everything photographers need after the shoot." It is designed to work with RAW images as well as JPEG. They are saying that it is to photography as Final Cut Pro is to video. What is scary about this, is what will be Adobe's response. When Final Cut Pro was released, they dropped production of Premier on the Mac. I don't think they will drop Photoshop Mac production as long as sales continue to be strong. But I am sure they are studying Aperture to make sure that Photoshop's continues to be the primary application for photo editing. See full article
