According to Nielsen/NetRatings, net users visited web shopping comparison web sites in September in enormous numbers. The No one site, Shopzilla.com had 15 million unique visitors followed closely by Shoppin.com with 14.8 million. Other sites listed are Yahoo, NexTag and Froogle. Read more...
For the third quarter, net revenue was $11 million compared to a net loss of $7 million a year earlier. They reported 2.2 million subscribers to its media services. Earnings and subscribers should get better since as part of its settlement with Microsoft included integrating RealNetwork's services with MSN. International Data Corp. said that sales of consumer handheld devices without voice communications slid for the seventh consecutive quarter. Shipments fell in the third quarter 16.9 percent from the same period a year ago to 1.6 million units. Back when blogs and RSS feeds were only a few months old, I attended a Special Librarian Association meeting where the author of the Shifted Librarian blog did a presentation on what they were and how librarians could use them. It actually helped me get my employer at the time to investigate blogging for employee communications.

I have wasted more time playing Civilization II and III than I care to admit. I found them much more interesting than any arcade game that of which I quickly tire. I am in the later stages of a Civ III game now. (Takes 20+ hours to complete a game.) Civ IV has been released for the PC.

Google to re-start its controversial copying of library books, even though there has been two lawsuits from publishers and authors opposed it.
Google has suspended the project so publishers would have time to let them know of their objections. They are copying books from a number of libraries, but the Oxford University Library and the New York Public Library are only supplying books that are in the public domain. ... see the full story...
