Charge for Web Speed?

BellSouth's CTO has said that ISP should be allowed to strike deals with web sites to give them priority for service to users. This would give sites with money a considerable advantage. And to make matters worse, Congress is actually considering legislation that would make it possible. Read more at: (may require registration) Read more...

HP

Hewlett-Packard is apparently doing things right since Mark Hurd replaces Carly Fiorina. The stock has risen 40% since April when Hurd move to HP from NCR Corp. Last quarter HP beat expectations by 12%.
Most surprisingly, all the various business of the company were profitable, not just the printer business as had become the norm.
According to the article in Business Week, Hurd actually benefited from programs put in place by Firoina in integrating all the acquisitions made over the previous year and a half. Read the full story at: ... see the full story...

The Year the Web "Explodes"

Adam Green blogs that he believe that in the next 6 to 8 months the web will blow apart with shifting of content from a website to a source of data that is in external databases. He seems to be saying that you won't have to go to a specific web site because search engines like Google will already have the data. Maybe you can get something different out of it. In this week's InfoManager blog, Fred says: "When is the Mac-Intel coming? Should I care? When I called and talked to an Apple rep about my daughter's 15" G4 Aluminum PowerBook catching fire, I also mentioned buying three new iMacs. He made some interesting comments." Lower your heating bills

Mother Earth News, (yes, the '60's counter-culture magazine), has an article in its current issue that is available on line on how to save money on heating your home. This has become increasingly important all around the country, including here in Texas, where electric rates are up nearly 60% from a year ago and natural gas up 90%. Some areas of the country have experienced an even greater increase. While I don't think a wood stove will help very many of us, (another article in the issue), heating efficency audits will help. HOAX: UK NATIONAL LOTTERY

According to Panda Titanium Antivirus and a number of other web indicators, a message about the UK NATIONAL LOTTERY is a hoax. It is a message with content aimed at deceiving users, therefore it is recommendable to ignore it and delete it. It reads something like this:
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
We happily announce to you the draw (#994) of the
UK NATIONAL LOTTERY, online Sweepstakes International program held on
13th October ,2005."

You will be asked to contact the "agent" so they can release your funds. Don't do it. Any email you get about the UK National Lottery, put it in the trash or report to SpamCop.

if we can really do something about it."

"Some people like my advice so much that they
frame it upon the wall instead of using it."

Have a great week... (See last week)
