Ross Rubin comments on the option available for Mac users to run Windows over the years. Starting with MacCharlie. (Dayna's Dayna File was much more successful. I even spent $1500 on it over a couple of years.) They are saying that because of the native Intel chip, this is the best chance yet for Apple to run Windows.
I am wondering, once the new Windows Vista is released that will run native on the Mac, how many will delete the MacOS and just install Vista as the only OS. Won't hurt Apple much financially, but there is a chance. Read more...
There are a few lucky people out there that have already gotten their new Intel based Macs. And there are many more of us that really want one soon. Meanwhile there is a lot of news coming out about the new machines and what applications are dual boot. This web site covers all that. See it at: www.maconintel.com
Guy Kawasaki, the original Apple evangelist, an Apple Fellow, and the author of "The Art of the Start" is auctioning off his actual Nike Max Air shoes and a mentorship with him on eBay from February 5 - 12, 2006.
Guy's auction is part of the Get in Their Shoes campaign. (www.getintheirshoes.org) and you can follow the auction
The Campaign is a call to action by successful business leaders, athletes, entertainers, and politicians to rally aspiring leaders to lift themselves out of their limiting circumstances by proactively interviewing successful professionals within their own communities. See: "Get in their shoes"
Research In Motion, the company whose Blackberry devices are in jeopardy in the U.S. has won an almost identical lawsuit in Germany. The German patent court ruled that all InPro's patent claims are invalid. However, it won't do any good in U.S. Courts. But it might help them come to a settlement agreement. what happens next - Can you say Apple media centre? Even the newspapers are picking up on the idea that Steve is interested in getting involved with Disney to help his vision of the digital media center. Read this Silicon.com article
Adium is a free instant messaging application for Mac OS X, released under the GNU GPL. It can be used to connect with AOL Instant Messenger (Including ICQ and .Mac), Jabber (Including Google Talk), MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger and others.
It is a beta program, but the interface is good and it picked up my buddy and friends lists and even my icon from iChat. There is even an easy dialog box for creating URL with in text so you don't have to know html. Of course just typing the URL turns it into a link, like most modern programs. This organization works with Mac Specialists all over the country. But their home page has a list of "essential" Mac OS X applications. I am going to check this one out more as I have time.
Fred sez: Although this is indeed a good list, I'm not sure I quite agree with a all of their choices. (IMHO) The omission of QuicKeys and BBEdit is unforgivable. Those are the first two software packages that should be loaded on to each new Mac upon delivery. I used to say "FileMaker" should be included, but today's FileMaker is like a big, fat lady sitting on the sofa eating chocolates. The Mac really needs another good, easy, quick, database program that is about like FileMaker 4, but working under Panther and Tiger. (Clue: Filemaker 4 does work beautifully under Panther and Tiger!) This is a good list, though... macspecialist.org
I am always interested in Apple history web sites. This one does it differently. It has lots of pictures and text about the "old" days. I have been an Apple user since 1980 and there are even things here that I don't remember. See it at: www.vintagemacworld.com
We have all seen the broad statements about how well Apple did last quarter. But the full report tells more. For example, while they have increased their sales of Macs quite a bit over the globe, in the U.S. it was only 8%. Read a summary via Edgar

Several of the rumor sites are showing some excerpts from recent Apple Patents showing an interesting tablet device. Gestures for touch sensitive input devices- looks very much like a GUI for a tablet with a touch sensitive screen. Could this be a glimpse of a future "iPad" touch sensitive input device?

At one time, I had subscribed to these newsletters. For some reason they lapsed. Probably because of a job change and a loss of an e-mail account. But now, they are not only available via e-mail, but also via RSS feeds. The web site it self has a great searchable archive of those tips. So if you want to do something in either of these Microsoft programs, there is a good chance that the tips here can help. See the site and subscribe to the newsletters/RSS feeds at: www.vitalnews.com
