Michael Vallance has posted an interesting article about MUGS. They went from 600 members early on to only 5 attending a meeting in 1997. Many MUGS in the US can relate to those types of declines. However, they have turned it around to where they now have over 7,000 members with several "hands-on" meetings each month. They also have an active "BBS" on a web site with lots of discussions going on. They credit the creation of a community by attracting the new breed of Mac owners, promoting the sharing done by MUGS members. They did this partially by LIMITING vendor demos and focusing the meeting to allow more hands on activities. (I would like more concrete examples of this.) The story does go on to specify other steps taken. See the full story

Even though there are a number of products on the market promising 802.11n compatibility, the standard has not yet been set. So if you purchase such a system at this time, you must understand that it may not work after the standard is actually set, which may or may not happen next summer.
I read about this in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The Envy Heavyweight U: 909 weighs in at 16 pounds! Not as heavy as the original Macintosh Portable, but that was nearly 20 years ago. This one does have a 19-inch screen capable of 1680x1050 resolution. (Strange to consider purchasing a computer called a "Voodoo" PC... they even come in your selection of weird 'personal' tatoos, and wild colors.) (Read More)
I haven't used Delta Graph for several years. My occupation no longer requires the special graphic capabilities beyond what Excel offers. But it is still around. Now from Red Rock Software. The latest version will not only run on Intel Macs, but also on PowerPC systems running Mac OS 9.x and Mac OS X (10.1.5 and later). www.redrocksw.com
ACD one of the oldest Apple groups in the country has long run a BBS on Red Ryder and then First Class. They are now moving to a blog format to provide a discussion area for their members. This move has been in conjunction with the move to their new URL. (Discussion groups are members only.) The credit for the web site goes to Michael Briney. See it at: www.acd.us
As you know, several of the latest Macs come with a remote control to run Front Row and a few other activities. Now, Remote Buddy will run a number of other applications.
It is software that will allow remote control of iTunes, Keynote, PowerPoint, QuickTime Player, DVD Player, Real Player and EyeTV 2. So it sounds like it is turning the Mac mini in to at least part of the media center everyone has been predicting. Read about it and download the software for a demo at www.iospirit.com
There was a discussion on the iMac mailing list run by LowMac.com. What started it was a member complaining about the video in his QuickTime player being jittery. Another member recommended VLC. VLC is a free video player that is cross platform. And has a hugh feature list. Download VLC and get more info at... www.videiolan.org
