Macintosh OS Routine Maintenance

Randy Singer, who has maintained a web site for lawyers that use Macs for sometime and publishes a newsletter aimed at that group. He has also been a co-author of the Macintosh Bible, has put up a web site that explains what and when regular maintenance needs to be performed on the Mac. This site even tells you what software to use while emphasizing Free and easy utilities. Great work, Randy, thanks for sharing! www.macattorney.com

No AppleWorks for Ed iMacs

In a mailing list sponsored by LowEndMac for iMac users, Jim Foster, President of Mac User East of Oshawa, Ontario points out that there is no free software for doing spreadsheets or word processing on the new stripped down iMacs that are sold only to schools. It does include demo versions of iWork and Microsoft Office. These seems strange to me, but has appeared for sometime now that Apple has stopped development on AppleWorks. But t would seem that Apple should include at minimum iWork for schools as well as iLife. But as Jim says "I am not CEO of Apple."
Good to hear from you Jim -- www.mause.ca

Vonage

Of course, we have talked about Vonage in the past and it is now available from many retailers. During my surfing while trying to find information for this survey, I came across an advertisement for Vonage. They now have a phone built into a USB thumb drive type product with earbuds.

This means that ones you have setup your account, you can call using your account on any broadband based computer.

Note: I don't usually pay much attention to ads, but I have been thinking about finding ways to cut my personal costs and I am considering something like this. More info at: www.vonage.com
