Photoshop Lightroom Beta 5

A new beta version of Adobe Lightroom is now online. However, there has been a name change to Photoshop Lightroom. The new software brings feature parity to the Windows and Macintosh versions. Microsoft launches Messenger 6.0 for Mac OS X

Obviously, Microsoft has not yet given up on the Mac OS. Last week, the released Mac Messenger 6.0, their first that works natively Intel- based Macs, but it will also work on the PowerPC Macintosh. Some of the new features are spell checking, custom-made emoticons, and iTunes sharing. Mac OS X 10.3.9 is required. Download it here

User Group .Mac account

Each Apple registered user group is entitled to have a free .Mac account. It is a fully functioning .Mac account, meaning the iDisk, email, and all other features work. You cannot upgrade this account to add more space or additional email accounts onto it. The intent of the free .Mac account is for the user group to use, and not necessarily intended for personal use. It was offered as a resource and tool to help MUGs. Here are the current year requirements from the Apple Sales Training Online website. Requirement
1. Take the ".Mac - QuickStart" course published on Apple Sales Training Online (ASTO) in January 2006 (course number SWS6011).
2. Score 80% or higher on the ".Mac - QuickStart" course quiz.
3. Have a minimum of 2000 points earned in 2006. These can be bonus points granted for achieving Apple Product Professional (APP) level in 2005 and/or new points earned in 2006.
4. Look to receive your activation key within 2 weeks from the time you qualify for the free account.

San Francisco Mac World Expo, Adobe Breakfast

Registration is now open for the Adobe User Group & Professional Association Leader Breakfast at Macworld Conference & Expo 2007! Install Front Row 1.3 on older Macs

Here is a blogger that tells how to get Front Row installed on an older Mac, in this case an iMac G4. It involves editing the installer script, but shouldn't be too hard. Of course remember that this isn't approved by Apple and it is all at your own risk. timmargh.net

MacGIMP

GIMP has long been available for Unix systems for Graphic Image manipulation. This web site is dedicated to the Macintosh version of this software. I had always thought that GIMP was an open source program, but this one is offered for sale at $79.99. Which is a lot cheaper than Photoshop, but more expensive than Graphic Converter, but then, it is closer in ability to Photoshop than GC. Check it out at: www.macgimp.org
