For sometime now, Apple has had a store in Oklahoma City at Penn Square. But now, they are getting one in Tulsa at Woodland Hills mall. I came across an announcement on a job web site asking for store manager applicants. Cool - the stores here in North Texas are so far from my home, that I am more likely to visit the store in Tulsa when visiting family.
Just wish I could qualify as a store manager. Bet my 8 months as assistant manager at Egghead Software in '89 at the Alexandria, VA store wouldn't help me much.
They always say: "Immitation is the best form of flattery... " but as you might expect, Apple's lawyers don't agree.

The SneakMove web site people have a template that, when printed, becomes a "cut-and-fold" iPhone model. Claims it will fool people from a distance into thinking you have a prerelease iPhone. (PDF format) Gt that template at:
You can probably tell from the last article and from the title of this one, I have been job hunting. I was laid off almost 2 years ago from RadioShack and then the job I got after that one only lasted about 15 months. So I am back hunting.
During a visit to the Texas Workforce Commission, one of the other unemployed people suggest this very useful web site. It not only searches the major job boards, like Monster and CareerBuilder, but also search over 1000 corporate web site for job postings. They also e-mail alerts, very similar to Google's alerts.
Just do a search and then save the search as an alert. At that time you can give a frequency for e-mail. Unfortunately, the alert is limited to 20 jobs, but it does tell you the total number of hits it got, so you can go to the web site and see the others. Also the alert is presenting in relevance order, not date order, but the web site listing can be switched to date posting order.

Sneakmove.com has a template you can download for making this case. It recommends that you use the template to cut a case out of a Trident gum box so it won't be as noticeable to people who might be interested in taking the Nano. Here's a picture: diynanocase03.jpg. Download it (diy_ipod_nano_case.pdf PDF format) -- there's also an Illustrator EPS version. The whole 'Sneak Move' site has a lot of cool stuff, so check them out at www.sneakmove.com
If Apple's font world was perfect, you wouldn't need Smasher.
With all the iPhone excitement from MacWorld Expo, I missed the CES story on the iPod wireless solutions from Creative Labs, InteliTouch and SoundCast. All three use the 2.4 GHZ digital transmission spectrum. SoundCast has been around for a little while, but the other players are new to this market. Some of these systems use "legacy system" stereos and others work with new stereo equipment. These systems run $119 up to over $249 for individual components. Read the full story
You've heard us rave about BBEdit before. Now they've upgraded with a host of hot new features. I'm using it now, in fact!
According to the Gartner Group, HP maintained a 17.4 percent market share worldwide during the fourth quarter of 2006 compared to 13.0 Percent for Dell and 7.1 percent for Lenovo and 6.8 for Acer. This means that Dell's market share has dropped 8.7% during the fourth quarter compared to previous year. I guess that Dell's customer service and effort to improve its margins is costing it the #1 spot world wide and will soon drop out of #1 in the US. Read the full story at:
You've heard it before: "I wish you could see my screen!" Often, being able to see the other Mac user's screen would help in any number of ways. Well, now you can share live, real-time, screens from your Mac with other users anywhere in the world... and here's how...
Dan Warne, News Editor of APC Magazine has written this article based on an article on The Unofficial Apple Weblog article and comments. It really points out a good number of errors that I wouldn't have expected. Like running an application from a disk image. It is an interesting read and could help MUGs anticipate their members problems. Read it at: danwarne.com
Mike Vande Ven Jr. has written an article giving 16 ways to extend the battery life on a MacBook. However most if not all of his tips would go with any notebook. Some examples:
* 1) Turn off Airport (Wi-Fi)
* 2) Turn off Bluetooth
* 3) Avoid using the built-in iSight camera
* 4) Keep discs out of the DVD drive
* 5) Turn down the screen brightness
* Well, you get the idea. More tips are on his blog: www.giantmike.com
Some people expected Apple to announce a Mac tablet at the last Expo. But they weren't completely disappointed as Axiotron, Inc. was showing off its ModBook running Mac OS X. It is actually a modified MacBook that has been turned into a touch screen tablet computer. It sells for $2,279. Other World Computing is its marketing arm. I really wonder why OWC is trying so hard to develop its own Mac based computers. This is at least the second time that they have worked on competing with Apple. Joe Showker reports he demonstrated ArtRage for the school art teachers, which we've mentioned before. But it's swell, so you should check it out: It's a free download for OS 10.3.9+. Joe sez: "It's the most realistic digital painting application I've seen." www.ambientdesign.com
One user group member has reported missing restore and set-up CDs in a Mactel iMac from the MacConnection. Service techs there say "Apple has stopped providing any disks with new Macs and that there's a 'restore' partition on the HD drive for that purpose." Of course we've heard nothing of the kind. A new iMac book which arrived here in December had full CDs included.
Carefully combing the Apple site brought no mention of dropped CDs. No comment from Apple ... Please let us know if you get a new Apple computer with no CDs.
And, if you're a Beatles fan then you definitely need to visit Tina's "The Beatles by PennyLane" website, ... "Pennylanesworld.com"
