Now there are no less than three "unofficial" iPhone blogs about this yet nonexistent product! Here are just a few of the more interesting entries
Skype now allows the sending of cheap SMS messages. It is also possible to setup a 10 person conference call for free. Calls to other Skype members are still free. Calling a phone, isn't free, but awful cheap. There is a $29.95 annual fee. The latest version requires at least a Mac G4 with an 800 MHz processor running Mac OS X 10.3.0, with 512 MB of RAM. Of course a microphone is necessary and a headset is recommended. There is even a Skype Dashboard widget to make things easier. See it and get the software
Anyone that has been around since the Mac User days of John Dvorak's Devil's Advocate column knows he normally states negative opinions of anything going on at Apple. (Most done now a days to drive traffic to his web sites.)
But in this article, he agree with Steve Jobs' call to remove Digital Rights Management from music. Read it at (may require registration): www.marketwatch.com/

I came across this ALPHA software of the new American Online Mac browser on MacUpdate.com. Quoting from there:
"Cheshire is a test of the AOL Online client for the Macintosh that we are releasing for your feedback. Cheshire is designed to make it easy for users to read and write email, surf the web, listen to AOL Radio and dial up to the Internet. Cheshire includes AOL's Parental Controls and works seamlessly with Apple's built-in applications like iChat and iPhoto.
Cheshire is a Universal binary, and the installer includes AOL Radio for Macintosh and the acclaimed AOL Pictures plugin for iPhoto. You might want to check it out. AOL is making a good effort to catch up to some of the other sites on the net. greenhouse.aol.com

It is not just iTunes that has a problem, even QuickTime crashes on Vista. Apple is recommending that if you use any of its software, delay upgrading until Apple has shipped versions of those programs as well as the following specific for Vista.
Airport, Bonjour, iDisk and AppleWorks for Windows. All of these are listed as compatible with Windows XP, but not Vista. Personally, I can't imagine Apple updating AppleWorks for Windows when they won't even up date it for Mac.
iTunes users have complained that can't play songs downloaded from the iTunes store on their Vista macines. Apple has also warned not to connect an iPod to a Vista machine.

TransGaming has a new Windows translation layer technology aimed at playing PC games on an Intel Mac without the installation of Windows. They are collaborating with NVIDA to bring games to the Mac.
I wonder how this will affect the actual translations to the Mac invironment. www.hardmac.com
It is interesting that Microsoft has decreed in its license agreement that neither Home version of Vista will be allowed to run on a virtual machine. They do agree to let multiple copies of Vista Extreme to be opened on a virtual machine however. This kind of leaves Mac users and some PC user with the only option to purchase the more expensive version.

I really dislike the Finder column view that cuts off the name of the file.
I had thought that I had to drag to resize the column every time I opened a window. But that isn't the case. It merely a case of option-double clicking on the change size "button" on the bottom of the window. Try it.
Unfortunately there are two problems. First it doesn't work within the open/save dialog box and it is necessary to do it each time the window is opened. Still easier than dragging the bar.

I didn't attend Mac World Expo, so I missed TaxCut's big announcement about returning to the Mac with the Mac version on the same disk with the Window's version. I had several Mac users point out my mistake last week.
I am hoping that we will get quick responses from readers and even comments on the quality of the products at the UGNN blog. Thanks to everyone who wrote in! Keep correcting me, I like to learn new things. Post your comments at www.ugnn.com
