If you have been to Apple's web site in the past week, you have seen the specs on Apple TV. They finally released the product last week. I was amazed that it took people so long to realize that Apple TV is just an iPod for your TV. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, it follows Apple's ideal of simplicity so that people will want it to download movies, TV shows and other video and then display it to a big screen HDTV. It is really going to be interesting to see how this market develops. See the full article at: www.mcall.com

Rumors were flying at the end of last week that Apple was going to delay Mac OS X 10.5 until fall because of issues with compatibility with Windows Vista. Some people are saying that this is only an excuse and the real reason is that Apple needs more time on its "top secret" features. No official announcement from Apple however. I am a lifetime member of the Tulsa Users of Macintosh Society and I was pleased to see that John Pogue, their current president was able to be quoted in this Tulsa World newspaper story. In the story, the paper says that Apple has obtained a permit to make a $1 million remodeling of a store at Woodland Hills Mall. During the years that I was active in the group, they met at the public library behind the mall. The Tulsa County Library system later built a new building a couple of files further south, but still not far away. This means that members will be able to drop into the store on their way to a meeting. Read the full story at: www.tulsaworld.com

I remember getting a call from a client when the Mac G3s first came out complaining how slow his system was. When I got to his office, I found out he has the standard ram of 64 megs, but had setup a 60 ram disk and then turned on virtual memory. So the computer spent its whole time reading and writing to the hard drive. After reversing his decisions, he was happy. These types of issues are easier to avoid today, but still keep an open mind. Not a computer annoncement, but Ben & Jerry's used to provide some great ice cream to parties at MacWorld Expo in Boston. They will be having their annual free cone day on April 17th. (Also Federal Income Tax dead line day.) The cones will be available from noon until 8 PM.
I am sure that they are asking for donations to a charity, so contribute and enjoy your ice cream. Note: In Fort Worth, the Ben & Jerry's is actually operated by the "Y".
