MUGSNJ is sponsored by the Computer Graphics Club of Gloucester County College in Sewell, NJ. Unlike most clubs at the college, MUGSNJ's membership is open to the community-at-large. MUGSNJ is supported by membership dues and an allocation from the Student Government, which allows Gloucester County College students to join us free of charge. Members have access to the college's Macintosh Lab. They hold their group meetings in an adjacent auditorium with fantastic A/V equipment.

The Computer Graphics Club was started in 1987 by Joan Smith-Brown and several of her students. The members of that club started MUGSNJ in 1989. The consensus at that time seemed to be, "Well, we use Mac's, so do a lot of other folks in the community, so lets expand and start a users group."

MUGSNJ serves 93 members from both Gloucester County College and the community. Some members travel from distant locations such as Ocean City, NJ and Philadelphia, which is across the Delaware River from our campus.

MUGSNJ meetings are held on the last Wednesday of each month, except in November and December, when they are held the week before to avoid holiday conflicts. MUGSNJ is a very casual and friendly group. Everyone mingles and chats before and after the meeting around the refreshments. Each meeting begins with a few opening remarks from Walt Vennell, our Vice President, who also sets up our speaker schedule. Nate Gable, our President (and adjunct instructor at GCC), will also say a few words. We follow with a question and answer period. Bill Achuff, Co-Director of User Group Alliance, attends our meetings and is extremely helpful in fielding many of the questions, but everyone joins in if they can help.
