This most recent MacDinner reminded me of spontaneous combustion--once there was a spark, *poof,* it rapidly ignited.
MacDinner, v6, was held, June 9, at Friday's, in Marlton, NJ.Jacki Moore, MUGSNJ's Secretary, (above left) arranged the Dinner around Friday's Hawaiian Night theme. Guests were asked to dress appropriately if they wished to be selected the "best dressed," and win a prize. The previous Delaware Valley MacDinner 5, was held in February, 1998 -- our first, ever, with a theme Mardi Gras.
. . . We had several special guests attend--Diane Cohn, Apple Manager User Groups, and Dave Zweigel, Tech Specialist, U.S. Information Agency; their availability, in fact, provided the "spark." Diane had come east for a three-day visit, and Dave was preparing to depart for Albania, leaving the Internet Trailer which he had set up at Fort Dix for USIA, in the capable hands of volunteers, almost all of whom where from PMUG. (Photo above, L to R: Jacki Moore, Bill Achuff, Betsi Lynch, Diane Cohn, and Afaf Mitchell, and Al Axelrod wonders how in the world he got mixed up with these crazy UGers)
. . . Timig was tight. The Dinner was conceived, planned, announced, and held in less than a week, and once again, it was memorable. Many folks, some of whom had attended ALL the previous Dinners said this one was, perhaps, the best ever.
. . . We had forty-eight people guests, and nine MUGs were represented. [PMUG, ACGNJ, Macs@PACS, MacBUS, MLMUG, BMMUG, SJAUG, PPUG, and MUGSNJ each sent at least one representative.] The Dinners have NEVER been exclusively for MUG members--Dinners are open to anyone who wishes to attend. You have to be lucky to get on the invitation list--we're always presold two dozen seats, but non-members who are invited usually find they like the folks that they meet, and want to spend more time with them. Groups are invited to bring newsletters and brochures, and they do. [MacDinners are an excellent, and PROVEN way to expand your group's membership with very little effort or expense.].
