UGN 2001 MACWORLD NEW YORK COVERAGE

continued from previous

Apple launches
Quick Silver

On Friday morning the Apple User Group department took the limelight with their breakfast and presentations.
Many attendees recognized what seemed to be a departure from traditional Apple user group breakfasts. The Apple User Group Program department took a low profile this time, giving the major portion of the morning over to the various Apple marketing department's presentations. There was little news or information about user groups or user group programs presented. This might suggest that the actual user group related content is migrating to the UGU and the User Group Lounge letting the breakfasts move in the direction of the other breakfasts with purely commercial venues.
___ Friday's breakfast welcomed Apple with the 'history of iMac and the new versions of iMacs. The big news is the newest muscle-machine on the Apple track, the dual processer G4 'Quick Silver'. Apple spcialists covered the text of Job's keynote again, and then went into greater detail illustrating the power and speed advantages of this speedy new kid on the block.
___ Following the presentations, attendees enjoyed raffle drawings and everyone departed for Javitz with a new Apple User Group cap.
___

"Think Digital, Act Analog."

This is the new phrase buzzing about the UG community during the show, one that Apple's new User Group Program Manager, Garr Reynolds, repeated on quite a few occassions.
___ In today's over-digitized world, with all the gimmicks and gadgets that make life easier and sometimes more exciting, the human aspects of people working directly with people shouldn't be forgotten. That was a welcome theme introduced by Reynolds and will help put more of the user group's emphasis on the people to people aspects of running a group.

Next, a look at highlights of the User Group Lounge...
