MacBUS User Group Launches Scholarship

Irv Herzog, VP, MacBUS

The Macintosh Business Users Society of Greater Philadelphia (MacBUS) has announced the start of an annual scholarship program. This program was created to identify and reward students who show likely promise as future business-oriented Macintosh users.

The "MacBUS Student Award" scholarship program is opened to select students currently enrolled at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Each year, from a rotating list of departments, MacBUS will select a junior or senior level class that has a major business-related assignment or project. All students within the chosen class will be eligible for the scholarship.

Out of the student projects in the class, MacBUS will select three top finalists, who will be asked to talk about their projects at a MacBUS meeting, and will be awarded either a first, second or third prize.

The "Professional Practices" class in Photography at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, taught by Jenny Lynn, was selected for eligibility in the "MacBUS Student Award" scholarship program for 2005. This year's major project for the class is for each student to design, develop, and produce a set of business identity materials, just as a new business would. The project includes logo development, business card layout, letterhead layout, and design of a direct mail/announcement postcard. This year's top three finalists will present at a MacBUS meeting.

The winners will be announced, and prizes will be awarded during an awards ceremony and reception on May 17th.

The first place winner will receive a $250 award, along with other prizes, including an iPod mini, donated by MatrxSystems, and a gift card, donated by Springboard Media.

The second place winner will receive a $50 award and a Springboard Media gift card. The third place winner will receive an iTunes gift card.
