FireBay External FireWire Docking Unit for PowerBooks - MCE has announced the FireBay External FireWire Docking Unit for PowerBookexpansion bay device. Once inserted into the MCE FireBay, PowerBook expansion bay devices such as hard disks, CD/DVD-ROMs, CD-R/RWs, Zips, etc. can be used externally on any Mac or PowerBook with a FireWire port. Eligible expansion bay devices arethose designed for the Apple PowerBook (FireWire) and the Apple PowerBook G3Series AD 1999 (Bronze/Lombard). The MCE FireBay is a small, stackable bay which can accept one PowerBook expansion bay device at a time. Depending on the particular expansion bay device in use, the FireBay can be either bus-powered or can be powered bythe included AC adapter. This product gives PowerBook users, or users of any FireWire-equipped Mac, the ability to use several of their expansion bay devices simultaneously, instead of just one at a time and only in the PowerBook's single expansion bay. Pretty hot stuff! Jennifer Robertson, DTG News. File this one under: Hardware related stuff for FireWire Macs For more info go to: http://www.mcetech.com .
The Legend of the "No More Night Mares" Comes to Life -I'm running this one as the #2 spot today because I always enjoy seeing wholesome things on the internet for kids. I know many of you have young folks using your computers at home, and I know that more than a few of you are concerned about the quality of materials they may encounter. I like this one. __ Now, Wild Heart Ranch has announced the launch of its animated webisode of "The Legend of the No More Night Mares." The short animation piece, features the Night Mare characters: Comet, Moonbeam and Lucky Stars, the Night Mares. The animation is based on the original story, written by Creator, Dawn Van Zant, of a mythical herd of wild horses and their legacy to live in the night sky. Pursued by hunters for their magic and power, the Night Mares and their stallion are chased to the edge of a cliff. The black stallion, Eclipse, summons the moon to answer his wild call. Mysteriously, the night mist unravels from around the moon to form a path to safety in the stars above. It becomes the destiny of the Night Mares to live in the stars, protecting children and all who believe in them, from their fear of the dark. The new animated CD Rom of "The Legend of the No More Night Mares(TM)" is included as a bonus with the purchase of all 2001 toy lines. 2001 new product lines include plush horses with sound chips and night-lights, mare and foal interactive plush, collectible plastic horse models, and floppy plush horses, all available shortly. Special thanks to Jennifer Randle of Wild Heart Ranch for sending this in. File this one under: Home & School For more info go to: http://www.horsetoys.com/ .
Photo Explorer Software Bundles with Microtek Scanners -Ulead Systems has signed with Microtek to begin shipping a limited version of Ulead's Photo Explorer with every ScanMaker scanner and Microtek digital camera, shipped after March 2001. Ulead Photo Explorer integrates tightly with the Ulead iMira photo sharing site, offering Microtek scanner and digital camera users a quick and easy way to organize images and post them to the Web. Mary Ann Whitlock, director of marketing for Microtek, tells UGNN: "Whether you're organizing photos on the computer or online can lead to the same level of frustration as trying to organize them in shoe boxes. Once you've scanned in the photo, how do you quickly find a particular image again? Our goal is to help Microtek scanner and digital camera users scan, organize and post their photos online as fast as possible and Ulead Photo Explorer can help all of our customers, no matter what level they are at." Ulead Photo Explorer displays thumbnails to let users quickly preview images, then add keywords and text descriptions to easier recognition. Its Digital Camera Wizard offers a one-step process that transfers images directly from a digital camera, including popular Kodak camera models. Users can enhance images quickly with a variety of tools, such as brightness and contrast. After changing one photo, users can batch apply the same change to a series of images, perfect for correcting multiple images taken under similar conditions. Jennifer Robertson, DTG News. CNET Eyes OS X -While it almost seems old-hat, the propaganda surrounding Apple's new OS X seems to have reached a crescendo. With all the hype, as expected, all the news services will be putting in their two-cents worth. CNET's News.com has hit the streets with what will probably be a line of many articles about the new OS. Yesterday they're telling us that Mac OS X 1.0 will lack many of the technologies that Apple has featured in recent advertising campaigns, including CD-RW, DVD, and DVD-R. If you read our OS X report this morning (See: www.user-groups.net/news/), Mac OS X even ships with Mac OS 9.1 on board so users can access some of the unsupported features. It's an interesting piece. Jennifer Robertson: DTG News. File this one under: OS: Enhancements (Mac OS X) For more info go to: http://news.cnet.com/news/0-1006-200-5195914.html .
Par-tay Down with OS X - With the roll-out of OS X targeting Friday, of course the parties will follow. According to Mac Central, the biggest party out there will be their own -- thanks to Mac Central for sending this in. User Groups Jump on OS X -Washington Apple Pi Mac, long known for their technology-savvy Mac members, is throwing an OS X Installation Party this Friday. This special clinic will guide affluent Pi members on the intricacies of installing Mac OS X. (At least those not already using the Beta or Warez versions, right?) This will be held along with their regular General meeting. Thanks to Charlie Wilks: for sending this in.
