O'Reilly MUG gathering

Macintosh User Groups Gathering

With all of the excitement surrounding O'Reilly's OS X Conference in Santa Clara, CA last week, there was one session on Thursday that was not really a "formal" session at all; however, it brought some added excitement and great connections for some Apple User Group leaders and members in attendance.

The fun and "informal gathering" ended up being a real Halloween treat as author and columnist, David Pogue (New York Times, "The Missing Manual" series, Macworld and others) arrived with a Powerbook and a warm smile. The always entertaining Pogue shared stories and thoughts on all-things-Apple as well as taking the time to hear from the attendees of the MUG gathering.

Adding to the energy and excitement was a visit by another O'Reilly author, Adam Goldstein ("The Missing Manual: AppleScript").

Meeting coordinators Marsee Henon (O'Reilly User Group Coordinator) and Lorene Romero (NCMUG, Apple User Groups Advisory Board member and "Vendor Queen") distributed books and materials.

MUG Clearly, the hot topic of the day was iPods - fresh on the heels of Apple's big media event featuring U2's special edition iPod and the new iPod Photo. "iPod Fan Book" by Yasukuni Notomi (O'Reilly Media, of course) features some of the ins and outs of what the active iPod user might need including cool accessories, tips and tricks, secrets of sound quality and more.
