Major phishing attack launched last night

SoftScan announced today that last night it prevented a major phishing attack from reaching its customers when it stopped over 70,000 phishing emails purporting to come from the MidAmerica Bank. The message threatens that the account will be deactivated if appropriate action is not taken. SourceWire- London,UK London, UK

PayPal Phishing Scam Surfaces

Security company Sophos has warned of a new phishing email that attempts to trick PayPal users into calling a phone number and parting with their credit card information.
      The email, which purports to come from PayPal, claims that the recipient's account has been the subject of fraudulent activity. However, unlike normal phishing emails, there is no internet link or response address. Instead, the email urges the recipient to call a phone number and verify their details. When dialled, users are greeted by an automated voice saying:

The Internal Revenue Service is warning taxpayers to keep an eye on their email inboxes, because there are several fake emails flying through cyberspace claiming to be from the IRS.

Phishing Mail Targets ICICI Customers

MicroWorld Technologies has discovered that a phishing mail in the name of ICICI - The spam mail reads that the bank is upgrading to a new SSL server to insulate customers against online identity theft and other criminal activities. Users are then asked to confirm their personal banking information by clicking on a corrupt link given in the mail. Once they click, they are then taken to a bogus website looking identical to the original one, where they are made to furnish confidential banking details such as account number, password and PIN number.
