Meanwhile, Phishing schemes are getting more costly

Consumer reports has reported that consumers have a 1 in 3 chance of becoming a cybervictim; Phishing victim's losses up five-fold since 2005 survey -- consumers lost more than $8 billion over the last two years to phishing schemes, viruses and spyware. Consumer Reports

Not just a U.S. problem... UK at risk of 'spamdemic'

According to Web User, London, UK and Chris Williams, broadband expert at uSwitch.com:
      "This criminal activity is a huge concern as it's growing at such a staggering rate. In August 2005 there were 160 phishing incidents reported; in August 2006 these figures leapt 800 percent to 1,484. And with phishing losses reaching £23.2 million in 2005 it's costing us over £63,000 a day."

In May, the Anti-Phishing Working Group, an industry association, detected 12,000 unique phishing sites, a 32 percent leap from February. See:

Less Spam, more Phish: Social networking latest target for ...

Online security site Netcraft this week reports that the MySpace site has been compromised with a spoof login form hosted on a cleverly named account hompage, which redirects the MySpace logins to a phishing server with a Spanish registered domain hosted in Paris, France. According to Netcraft, "it is convincing and even security-conscious users are at risk of becoming victims".
