Shareware Picks for October

Drop Drawers, MacDrive, Solarian, Quickie Web Album

SIG brings on Drop Drawers upgrade:

Sig Software is proud to announce the release of Drop Drawers 1.6.5, for both Mac OS X and the Classic Mac OS.

Drop Drawers provides floating pull-out, snap-shut drawers on the sides of your screen to store text, URLs, aliases, scripts, pictures, sounds, movies and anything else. Information in drawers can be edited, viewed, drag-and-dropped or launched at the press of a key.

O'Reilly's Mac OS X Hacks recently described Drop Drawers as "One of those applications you have to try to believe." MacUser (UK) described it as "the most elegant solution yet to the launcher concept."

Version 1.6.5 has many interface improvements on OS X. It also improves decoding of URL names dragged from modern browsers, adds support for using Finder icons as thumbnails and backgrounds, and allows drawers with no tabs to be used with drag and drop.

More information and the download are available at sigsoftware.com

We've got your back!!! We've added a great way to make backups of Mac disks through Windows thanks to a special file naming mode that causes MacDrive to spit out pristine Unicode file names.

Catch me if you can!!! We've not only made MacDrive easier to use, it handles more Mac file types and it's fast, even with huge sets of files.

Think globally...act locally!!! MacDrive used to be awash in global settings that can now be adjusted on a drive-by-drive basis.

Parlez-vous Fran¨ais??? We've upped support for international file names.Requirements Use of MacDrive 6 requires Windows XP, 2000, 2003 Server, Me or 98SE.

Solarian classic Mac video game is back!

Stick Software announced version 1.1 of Solarian II, the classic Mac video game. Solarian II was one of the first games out for the color Macintoshes introduced in 1988, and swept the gaming world, winning awards and accolades; but it has not been able to run on OS X because Classic couldn't handle it. Now, by popular demand, Solarian II has been ported to OS X and re-released!
Version 1.1 of Solarian II requires OS X 10.3 to run. It is very faithful to the original; all the old sounds are there (but with their hiss and static cleaned up), all the old graphics are there (but it will now run at any resolution, in thousands or millions of colors), and the gameplay is exactly the same. Just the way you remember it.

Solarian II joins Stick Software products such as Eyeballs, Fracture, PhotoReviewer, Aquatint, Trisection and Constrictor. It is shareware, with a price of only $10, and it's free to try.
