New shareware and freeware apps these days are almost too much to keep up with -- but these Apple updates are heartily advised, and all the other stuff is... well, just plain fun!
Apple has posted iSight 1.03, an update to its FireWire-based video camera. The camera works with iChat AV and other video conferencing applications. The free update brings improved audio performance and requires Mac OS X v10.3.7-10.3.9.

Without any additional hardware, users can produce sine, square, triangle, and sawtooth waveforms of any frequency up to 22 kHz, as well as generate noise and more. Eyephedrine 1.3 is an OpenGL 3D visualization plug in for iTunes (Mac OS X version only) that renders the music with real 3D entities reacting to spectrum and waveform values and using advanced OpenGL techniques like Motion Blur and Light Bloom.

MacVCD X 4.4.1 is an easy-to-use video player that plays VCD, SVCD, AVI, DivX, MPEG, video, Quicktime movies and Karaoke VCD. Version 4.4.1 adds Photo VCD playback.
palmTunes Express a Mac OS X utility for copying MP3 files from iTunes playlists to Palm Handhelds. It can transfer MP3 files to the HotSync directory for syncing with the handheld, or directly to an SD card if one is connected through a card reader.
