Shareware for the new year:

With thanks to Rick Curran of Coastal Mac!

Airport Software Base Station Tutorial
One of the handiest files to come to my desk recently is Will Clarkson's Airport Software Base Station Tutorial. Like the name says, this file can help you quickly set up your Base Station network. http://www.willclarkson.com/SWBSX032f.sit.tgz -
Thanks to: Will Clarksonfor sending this in. File this one under: Networking Here's where you can get it: http://yourhead.webcitizens.net/files/timex_1.7.0.hqx
.
DMG Mechanic
Seems like so many files are stored as Disk Copy images these days. Problem is, the system often tries to open the files as simple text or worse, resulting in a jumble of unreadable code and an error message. DMG mechanic, by Lafty Software, will set the file type and creator so disk images and raw disk images open properly under Systems 9 or X. -
Thanks to: Lafty Softwarefor sending this in. File this one under: File & Disk Management Here's where you can get it: http://home.eunet.no/~lafty/files/dmgmechanic.sit
.
Tired of Spam? Try SpamKiller 1.1
How many times have you posted a message to a bulletin board or listed your address on your web site only to have it "harvested" by spammers. SpamKiller, by RAILhead Designs, encodes your e-mail address so it is usable by web visitors but useless to spam harvesters. This one is a real treat! Better yet, it comes in 2 versions, so that folks using 8.6 and higher can use it as well as those using X.
For PPC users:

PodMaster
Folks lucky enough to have one of the new iPods from Apple will welcome this. PodMaster 1000, by Flying Mouse Software, facilitates the moving of tunes from one Mac to another. Interestingly, it will also let the user see the invisible iPod file serial number, and amount of free disk space. -

Erase the Trail, by software makers Mallet and Bare, is a full-featured hard disk management application for under $7. Erase the trail will let you see & manipulate invisible files, batch change creator codes, back up an entire disk with the click of a button and more. Users may download the entire file or desired segments separately. -

Type Creator Database 2002
Every Macintosh file has two four-character codes associated with it - its type and creator. The Creator code is unique to each application and enables the Finder to attach documents to their parent applications. Type/Creator Database, by Ilan Szekely, is a collection of well over 39,000 of those codes. It is so useful that even Apple's developer site links to TCDB. -
Thanks to: Ilan Szekelyfor sending this in. File this one under: File & Disk Management Here's where you can get it: http://www.angelfire.com/mac/tcdb/download.html

USB Overdrive X
Nowadays Mac users can find tons of USB input devices that are cross-platform. Question is, is there a driver for the mouse you would prefer to use? The newest beta version of USB Overdrive, just released by Alessandro Levi Montalcini, provides a universal USB mouse driver that works under system X. -
